What an honor to host our new friends from the Bedford Falls Foundation! They flew into Des Moines yesterday to see firsthand the impact of their incredible $3 million gift to the University of Iowa College of Nursing. Their support includes $600,000 to expand our ability to deliver critical, hands-on simulation training across all 99 counties.

Lieutenant Governor Chris Cournoyer stopped by our mobile simulation truck at today’s Children's and Women's Services Nursing Conference. 👩‍⚕️ She observed an obstetrics demonstration, practiced hands-on skills using one of our high-fidelity mannequins, and spoke with our director about the impact of simulation in nursing education. We’re grateful for her interest in the future of healthcare training! 🚑🧠🩺

Industrial Strength. Industrial Safety.

Our Eastern Region Team partnered with Koch Fertilizer in Wever, IA to deliver industrial medical and trauma training tailored to the unique hazards of their work environment.

Through high-fidelity simulation, participants engaged in realistic emergency scenarios ranging from industrial trauma to complex medical events, building confidence in rapid assessment, teamwork, and life-saving interventions.

These partnerships are essential in preparing industries to respond effectively to critical incidents—helping keep employees and communities safe.

We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Koch Fertilizer and proud of the commitment their team showed to readiness and safety. 👏

🚨 Multi-Agency Mass Casualty Training – Swisher, Iowa 🚨
This month our Eastern Region SIM-IA team partnered with Fairfax Fire Department and Jefferson Monroe Fire Department for a large-scale mass casualty incident simulation.

The scenario was intense and layered:
🌾 Tractor rollover with both pediatric and adult trauma
☠️ Anhydrous ammonia leak Identification and hazardous exposure
👩‍👧 A frantic parent searching for family, leading to an unexpected OB emergency delivery

Crews had to work across multiple systems, establish scene safety, perform hazardous materials decontamination, and manage trauma assessments, entrapment, and delivery — all under pressure.

These kinds of trainings showcase the power of simulation in motion: giving first responders the chance to practice critical decision-making in high-stakes, complex events before they encounter them in real life.

Homecoming 2025 💛 We are proud to celebrate this year’s Homecoming with a tailgate at the University of Iowa College of Nursing, featuring the Eastern Region Simulation in Motion – Iowa (SIM-IA) mobile simulation truck.

Students, faculty, and alumni had the opportunity to tour the truck, step inside a high-fidelity simulation environment, and experience how we bring real-world training to communities across Iowa Obstetrics & Delivery style!

It was a day of connection, collaboration, and celebration—highlighting our shared commitment to community, innovation, and excellence in nursing education.
