6 years ago today this 2 pound little lady began her 44 day NICU stay! Thank you for all you do to save these tiny babies! ❤️ We feel so blessed that University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital is apart of her story!
We hope this is ok, please let us know if we should go about it another way? Here is a post on my page today:
Emily (and Sue, but mostly Emily) hard at work fulfilling the windfall of orders from her “Virtual Lemonade Stand”! The response so far has been amazing and she greatly appreciates the help with her ultimate project goal of donating 52 fleece tie blankets to the Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City. Emily has chosen to do this instead of receive gifts for her birthday in December, her goal is one blanket per week since her last birthday. ALL proceeds from this will go toward purchasing more fleece and supplies for her blanket project. If you would like to know more, let me know or see posts on my profile which Sue tagged me on. Thanks everyone!
Two years ago, my wife Carrie called and said she had one of our twin boys, Jon at Castle Rock Medical Center, getting a urine test done for a Diabetes check and results would be back soon. When I went up there I already had a good idea what the results were going to be. And true to form, we found out that Jon had Type 1 Diabetes.
We were fearful of what the future was going to hold but we knew if we attacked it head on we would be in control. We later found out how much control diabetes actually had on us 🤣🤣.
But through it all we stayed positive. We knew Jon would react the way he saw us react to it. And we didn’t want him to be angry or depressed. Is there days that Diabetes sucks ??? Absolutely. Is there days it doesn’t ???? Absolutely.
They say life can be a roller coaster ride. That’s exactly what diabetes has been for us. It’s a scary ride to begin with but after you ride it enough you begin to start to feel more comfortable. There are still scary moments for us but none that we don’t feel we can overcome.
After 2 years we’ve had our “ups and downs” but each day we get back on that ride to see where it leads us. I read a quote one time that said “I’ve always thought that the best moments can come from the worst times.” Seems fitting that a lifelong disease can bring out great moments as Jon has found a group of lifelong diabetes friends that maybe otherwise he wouldn’t be a part of.
So today we celebrate his 2 year “diaversary” and only hope that we can continue to see his strength everyday and not let Diabetes beat him.
A year later, a relative reached out to the hospital and explained what he went through. He was fortunate to receive this gift which he now uses as his diabetes kit.
Thank you University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
Last holiday season, months after my husband had been diagnosed with an in operable brain tumor, our family (two boys ages 3 and 18months at the time) were blown away by the generosity we received from our church, our community, family/friends, and even strangers. This year to reciprocate this generosity, my husband, now three young boys, and I are hosting a book drive to provide brand new reading & activity books for children staying long term. As Iowa natives, and having been affected by cancer ourselves, this is a mission we are truly passionate about - but we need help to reach our goal.
Our family is accepting monetary donations until 12/10. Once we reach $250 in donations, Usborne Books will match our total donations @ 50%. Our goal is to raise $300 so we can donate $450 worth of books to the children prior to the holidays!
How can you help?
1. Monetary donation

I know this is a long shot but my daughter lost her favorite stuffed cat. I had a medical emergency on July 4th and I'm pretty sure she left the cat in the waiting room at the ER of this hospital because she definitely took it there to play with while we waited but we haven't seen it since. This is a black and white build a bear cat with a sparkling red bow glued to its head. It also had a makeshift outfit on it that we fashioned out if odds and ends like a ribbon, headband and cut white baby stockings. It also had a h**p necklace with a sub charm on it that I made myself. I've included an older picture before the bow was glued to its head, and a couple screenshots from a video that do show the red bow. This cat is very sentimental to us and my daughter is devastated and keeps asking for us to go get her. We checked lost and found at the hospital to no avail so I'm really hoping someone who reads this found her kitty or has seen it and can help reunite them. Nothing would make us happier. We built the cat at build a bear and together we dressed her up(the bow, the homemade necklace and outfit) so she is truly irreplaceable and unique. Please get a hold of me if you found her! We will be your best friends forever.
