READING ISSUES? The two pictures that I posted are the areas of the brain involved in saccades, (the ability to jump from one target to another) this skill is vital to do accurately for reading. It is a skill that almost every kid that struggles to read does not have. If a child has under-development of one of these areas or lack of supporting nutrients saccades can not occur accurately and smoothly resulting in learning difficulties. The second picture shows all of the neuron types associated with good saccades and the substrates needed for this to occur. This is why when we support a child’s brain with appropriate nutrients saccades often improve. (Images from functional neurology seminars)

This child had retention of primitive reflex (ATNR, STNR, TLR) when he came in. Check out the improvements in eye tracking as we get rid of this reflexes!
