Blackberry Point Haven

Blackberry Point Haven We are a licensed 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (DS-546403), based in Wisconsin. This is our commitment to responsible rescue and population control.

We’re committed to doing rescue in a way that reflects our values—always with compassion, integrity, and in full accordance with the law. With over 60 years of combined experience in veterinary medicine and competition in the horse and canine arenas, we bring a deep understanding and passion to animal care. We frequently receive calls from shelters and individuals in Wisconsin and Illinois who, after breeding their pets, realize they are unable to care for the resulting litters. When we take in these puppies, we require owners to spay and neuter the parents as a condition of surrender, and we cover the costs to ensure the breeding cycle ends. By intervening before puppies end up in shelters, we help protect them from exposure to illnesses like parvo and other diseases common in high-volume environments. However, given our small size and limited resources, we must be selective about the cases we take on. Even so, when we cannot bring puppies into our care, we often direct families to resources and cover spay/neuter costs to make an impact beyond our walls. We recognize that our adoption fees are sometimes higher than others, but this is intentional. These fees discourage resale and ensure adopters are committed to the process. We follow conversation-based adoptions as recommended by the National No Kill Advocacy Guidelines, prioritizing thoughtful matches between pets and families. While some may have differing views, we do this because the costs of rescue often exceed adoption fees, keeping us operating at a deficit. In addition to dogs, we also foster horses, which comes with substantial expenses of its own. In 2024 we became a 501(c)3 rescue. These are crucial steps in strengthening our ability to help animals responsibly. While our preference was to stay off social media, circumstances have made it necessary to share our story more broadly. It’s worth noting that many rescues operate without licenses, which can be verified by checking your state’s licensed dog sellers list online. While a 501(c)(3) is not mandatory, a license is required to place more than 25 dogs annually in states like Wisconsin. Rescue work is as complex as it is rewarding. The animal welfare community is vast, and everyone has their own approach. Our focus is on doing what works best for us and the animals we care for. We encourage you to explore, learn, and choose what aligns with your values—no judgment here. There are many ways to help—this is ours. We may each do things differently, but together, we all play a role in making a difference.

Meet Foreman — our 16-pound, 4-month-old Doberman mix with the softest little scruff and the biggest heart.

ADOPT OR FOSTER!

Foreman’s story began in Waxahachie, Texas, where he and his littermates were born inside a shelter. One by one, his siblings were adopted… and Foreman has waited so patiently for his turn. He has been overlooked for months, but his spirit has never dimmed.

This sweet boy is truly something special. Foreman is playful, yet incredibly respectful — especially for a puppy. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, adores children, and is fantastic with cats. In fact, he can be found lounging with them on multiple occasions, happy to just relax and soak up their company.

He has a calm, gentle nature and a heart of gold. Foreman is the last of his litter still searching for his forever home, and we simply cannot understand why. He’s smart, kind, loving, and so ready to finally have a family of his own.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign, this is it. Foreman deserves his happy ending — maybe it’s with you.

If you’re interested in adopting Foreman, please head over to our website!

Today we got to witness one of those perfect rescue moments — the kind that reminds us why we do what we do.

Two puppies, adopted by two separate strangers from opposite ends of the East Coast… and somehow their stories became one.

One little pup is heading all the way to Maine, and the other is starting a brand-new life in New Hampshire. When we realized their adopters lived so close to each other, we connected them — and without hesitation, one adopter offered to transport the other puppy on his way home.

When he arrived to pick them up, it was love at first sight. Two pups, two families, and one incredibly kind gesture bringing everyone together.

These are the happy endings that fill our hearts — the ones where strangers become friends, dogs become family, and the world feels just a little bit smaller and a whole lot kinder.

Here’s to new beginnings, safe travels, and the beautiful community this rescue world creates every single day

Meet Foreman — the sweetest, calmest Doberman mix you’ll ever meet.

Foreman made the long trip all the way from the Waxahachie, Texas Humane Society, and somehow… this incredible boy is still waiting. He’s the last of his litter and the only pup who came with an adorable bit of scruff on his face — truly one-of-a-kind.

This boy has a heart of gold.
He is laid-back, gentle, and wonderfully respectful, especially for a puppy. His favorite things in the whole world? Playing with cats and snuggling right into your side. He gets along beautifully with other dogs, kids, and even goats. Foreman is the definition of an easy, loving companion.

He’s also crate trained, doing excellent with potty training, and is well on his way to being the perfect family dog. He has had all of his puppy shots, two certified vet inspections, is up to date on vaccines, and has had a f***l, deworming, and his adoption fee includes a future neuter. Foreman is expected to mature around 40–50 lbs.

You can meet Foreman at End of the Leash in Hales Corners, WI, or at our BlackBerry Point Haven adoption center in Hustisford, WI.

Get your application in today — you will not be disappointed.
This calm, loving boy is truly a gem and deserves his forever home.

Meet Homer – Your New Best Buddy!

Homer is a happy, hammy, jolly Heeler mix who absolutely adores people. This sweet boy has excellent house manners, gets along wonderfully with cats, and won’t tear up your furniture or dig through your trash. He’s the kind of dog who makes life easier, not harder.

His favorite activities? Fetch, nice walks, and curling up to watch a movie with his humans. Homer also loves children and has the gentle, loyal nature to match. At about 40 lbs and roughly 3 years old, he’s the perfect size for couch cuddles or outdoor adventures.

Homer does prefer cooler weather, so Wisconsin is right up his alley! While he is a house dog through and through, he also enjoys playing outside—just not in the heat.

He’s fully vetted, neutered, and ready for a family who will cherish him. Homer is currently with one of our trusted rescue partners in Oklahoma, but he can be transported to Wisconsin at any time to meet his forever family.

If you think Homer could be the perfect fit for your home, reach out to us at info@blackberrypointhaven.com.
