...bc I'm tired of the redundant courses and fees-
Dear Members of the Alabama Dental Board,
I respectfully request the Board’s pre-approval for the following courses:
Course 1: IRS Circular 230 Ethics (2-Hour Course)
This course is approved by my professional liability insurance carrier and covers substantial content on mandatory reporting obligations, informed consent, maintaining reputable conduct, and procedures to ensure compliant technology to protect Personally Identifiable Information (PII). I am requesting that the Board recognize this IRS course as Online Training and accept my 2 CEUs as follows:
- 1 hour to satisfy the Ethics requirement
- 1 hour CE towards the annual 12-CEU requirement
Course 2: Regulatory Compliance & Training
Since January 2023, I have assumed the role of OSHA Compliance Officer at a local dental practice where I have been a contractor since 2017. My duties include preparing and presenting quarterly Safety Meetings for a staff of 10-15 members (dentists, hygienists, admin), conducting New Hire Safety Meetings, managing Incident Reporting, and updating Emergency Evacuation plans, among other responsibilities.
I also conduct annual training courses that include Ethics and Codes of Conduct, and I understand that Board Rule awards 2 CEUs to presenters/trainers—1 for every 1 hour of presentation, plus an additional hour, presumably for preparation. I respectfully request the Board to consider awarding a total of 3 Live CEUs (maximum of 6 hours annually) for presenters/trainers when the subject matter pertains to legal or regulatory compliance, as follows:
- 1 CEU for every 1 hour of presentation/training
- 2 CEUs for the due diligence, preparation, research, digesting, approval, and scheduling required before the training is presented
Given the complexity and importance of legal and regulatory compliance in healthcare and finance, proper regulatory due diligence and thorough preparation are crucial. My request is aimed at recognizing the time and effort involved in ensuring that all training materials are accurate, relevant, and aligned with the latest regulatory requirements.
