Do antireflective coatings really work?
Short answer, antireflective coating uses several layers of thin film to cancel out reflective light in different wavelengths
More technical, or long answer is more complicated, but by applying the principal of interference the basic concept is that each layer in the stack combines with previous layers to cancel out a wide range of light waves by adding opposite, or destructive waves that are out of phase causing the two reflections to cancel out.
Is an antireflective coating right for you?
* These days we live in a world where artificial light is everywhere, from ambient, traffic, digital etc…so an antireflective coating is beneficial for all of us
* If you spend hours in front of a computer then a BlueLight filter AR coating is beneficial for you. It’ll help alleviate any eye strain from long term close up work, eye fatigue, even headaches.
* If you spend hours on the road or do night driving it will absorb reflective light from street signs, oncoming traffic and digital dashboards.
Here at the Eyeglass Store of OC we offer 3 types of antireflective coating.
Each coating extends the life of your lenses by adding an extra layer of protection against scratches.
* GOOD $50
Standard AR - good for driving, indoor, ambient lighting and cosmetic since it absorbs any reflections on your lenses
* BETTER $85
BlueFilter AR - which does all of the above plus filters out damaging blue light from electronics such as computers, phones, tablets, TV’s or any digital screen
* BEST $145
Premium AR - this one does all the above, but is also easy to clean and stays crisp due to its Hydrophobic and Oleophobic properties which repel dust, oil and water
