March is National Kidney Month, a time to recognize the impact of kidney disease and the thousands of individuals waiting for a lifesaving transplant.

Kidney transplantation remains one of the most effective treatments for end-stage renal disease, yet access to transplant depends not only on clinical readiness but on thoughtful, informed conversations with families during moments of crisis.

Behind every successful transplant is a team committed to clarity, compassion, and trust. Education, communication, and family-centered care are essential in helping families understand their options and make informed decisions.

This month, we recognize the patients waiting, the families navigating difficult choices, and the professionals working every day to turn potential into possibility.

This Women’s History Month, we are proud to recognize the women whose leadership, expertise, and dedication strengthen organ donation and transplantation every day.

Across OPOs nationwide, women serve as clinicians, family care professionals, coordinators, nurses, hospital development leaders, and executives. They guide families through moments of profound loss with clarity and compassion, build trusted partnerships within hospitals and communities, and help advance best practices that shape the future of donation.

Their impact is seen not only in outcomes, but in the presence, professionalism, and integrity they bring to this work. We are grateful for the women who continue to move the field forward.

February 14 marks National Donor Day, a time to recognize the life-saving impact of donation in all its forms, including organ, eye, tissue, blood, platelet, and marrow donation.

This day is also about honoring donors and their families, recognizing recipients whose lives have been transformed, acknowledging those still waiting, and remembering those who did not receive a transplant in time. National Donor Day reminds us that donation is both a medical act and a deeply human one.

Whether through registering as a donor, participating in a blood or marrow drive, or simply starting a conversation, every action helps strengthen the donation community.

Last week, our Founder and CEO, Robert Coppel, led an on-site training with members of the team at Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency, an organ procurement organization serving South Florida.

The training session focused on strengthening communication skills within the donation process. Rob worked with team members on navigating complex family dynamics, building trust during time-sensitive conversations, and approaching emotionally charged situations with clarity, empathy, and care. Drawing from real-world experience, the training emphasized practical strategies that support both families and professionals in this critical work.

We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with Life Alliance and support the continued development of professionals working on the front lines of organ donation.

February marks Black History Month, and in 2026, we recognize the theme A Century of Black History Commemorations, honoring 100 years of reflection, resilience, and progress through education, civic engagement, and cultural pride.

In organ donation and transplantation, Black leaders have played a critical role in advancing equity and access. One such pioneer is Clive O. Callender, a transplant surgeon and medical professor at Howard University. Dr. Callender pioneered minority transplantation efforts and established the first minority-led dialysis and transplant center in the United States, laying essential groundwork for addressing disparities that continue to impact the field today.

As we reflect this month, we honor the contributions of Black professionals whose leadership continues to shape more equitable systems of care.

Earlier this month, our Founder and CEO, Robert Coppel, returned to The University of Toledo to guest speak with students in the Transplantation and Donation Sciences MSBS, PSM Program, alongside James Wallace, MS, CPTC, our Vice President of Recruitment.

As the nation’s only academic program designed specifically to prepare students for careers in organ donation and transplantation, the Transplantation and Donation Sciences master’s program continues to be truly one of a kind.

During their visit, Rob and James spoke about the critical role of empathy and compassionate communication in the organ donation process. They shared real-world insights on building trust with donor families, understanding their perspectives, and approaching highly sensitive conversations with care.

Thank you to Julie DeSantis for the opportunity to engage with a program that plays a vital role in shaping the future of organ donation and transplantation.

Today, we honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and his enduring message of service, justice, and racial equity.

Dr. King reminded us that progress requires action, courage, and a shared responsibility to care for one another. His words continue to challenge all of us to work toward a more just and equitable society, including advancing equity within healthcare and the donation and transplantation field.

On New Year’s Day, the OneLegacy Donate Life Rose Parade® float once again served as a powerful tribute to organ, eye, and tissue donation.

The 2026 float, “Treasure Every Moment Together,” marked OneLegacy’s 23rd year participating in the Rose Parade and honored 45 donors, living donors, recipients, and donor families from 11 states, with floragraphs memorializing deceased donors whose gifts saved and healed countless lives.

It is always meaningful to see donation advocacy and donor families honored in such a powerful and public way. We’re proud to support OneLegacy and the broader donation community in honoring every donor and the legacy they leave behind.
