A large study published in the British Medical Journal found no strong evidence linking canna use to dementia, cognitive decline, or accelerated brain aging in older adults.

Researchers analyzed large population datasets and genetic data to better understand whether canna could directly impact long-term brain health. Their findings suggest that canna use was not associated with worsening thinking ability over time or increased dementia risk.

The genetic analysis also found no evidence that canna use causes poorer cognitive function. While more research is always ongoing, these results add to a growing body of evidence suggesting that canna may not negatively impact brain health in older adults the way it’s often assumed to.

As always, effects can vary depending on the individual, frequency of use, and product type.
