Let’s talk about binge eating — not as a “bad habit,” but as an emotional survival strategy.
Binge Eating Disorder (BED) involves episodes of eating large amounts of food with a sense of loss of control. But behind the behavior are very real emotional experiences: stress, loneliness, shame, trauma, perfectionism, or years of dieting and restriction.
Many people binge because it temporarily numbs or soothes overwhelming emotions.
But afterward, shame and guilt often make the cycle even harder to break.
Therapy can help by:
• Identifying emotional and situational triggers
• Reducing shame and self‑blame
• Teaching emotional regulation and grounding skills
• Challenging unhelpful thoughts (“I already messed up today…”)
• Healing body image and internalized stigma
• Rebuilding a flexible, non‑restrictive relationship with food
• Addressing trauma or chronic invalidation that may be underneath
Healing is possible — and you deserve support that is compassionate, non‑judgmental, and trauma‑informed. 💛
