NOTE FROM JUNIOR GUARDS USA FOUNDER Brad Butterworth
2025 was an incredible year for Junior Guards USA. Currently, there have been over 120 unique participants in the program over its history and we had a few record setting sessions within the last 12 months. The summer saw 60+ registered members. Junior Guards USA officially partnered with Tybee Island Fire Rescue and Tybee Island Ocean Rescue to launch our first camp series. The fall had 35+ registered members all navigating through a government shutdown which had an impact on activity but also saw the birth of our latest curriculum "Night Search and Rescue Operations" due to the resiliency and fortitude of the many pivots through the shutdown. We continued our deep connections and relationships with both U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Savannah and USCG Station Tybee, GA. And most excitingly, we saw instructor Erin Van Eck be accepted into the Airmen's program as she prepares to be only the 5th female Rescue Swimmer in the Coast Guard's storied history.
As we prepare for an equally exciting 2026 year, I wanted to post our Junior Guards USA Ethos or, our Manifesto. I reflected on this year's wins, lessons and challenges a felt compelled to outwardly communicate what Junior Guards USA stands for and how Junior Guards USA filters its many choices to a decision point - programming, instructor selection, communication, Cadre, lesson planning, events, etc... Many of our community members know well our Core Values - COMMITMENT, RESILIENCE & FORTITUDE. The intent was to expand on that, memorialize and hold myself and this brand accountable to it and all within it.
I hope as you read it, it inspires you as much as it revealed itself to me as I wrote it. And as we turn the page into another year, you may find a few changes. My commitment to you is that anything this Brand decides to do, it was sifted through the Ethos of Junior Guards USA. HAPPY NEW YEAR, JUNIOR GUARD FAMILIES!
