The transition to parenthood is just that….a HUGE transition. The world of feeding, postpartum recovery, sleep techniques, and the re-emergence and rediscovery of one’s self after babe calls for connection! There is nothing more valuable than getting the chance to talk to people who just get it.
Every Wednesday( weather dependent) Jillian’s Drawers is hosting a new mom’s group outdoors on the lawn (opposite side of their plaza at 609 W Clinton St.). No registration necessary, just drop in with your infants and a ground blanket or an outdoor chair, and meet other new moms! Nursing pillows, sanitizing wipes, and balls available!
If you cant make Wednesday’s the child development council also hosts a virtual support group! The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday from noon-1pm and is currently meeting via Zoom. Email amanda@childdevelopmentcouncil.org for the link or call the office at (607) 273-0259 to be connected. The group is facilitated by Amanda Spaulding, LCSW-R. who has extensive experience working with families throughout pregnancy and postpartum and is a Certified Lactation Counselor and Jess Evett, a Certified Doula.

Greetings! I’m partnering with a new nonprofit, the Doula Access Initiative to fund their important work! I’m excited to share how you can help support new parents in accessing no-cost doula care in our community and provide doulas fair wages for their important work!

Receiving doula care is a health-creating opportunity. However, the cost of hiring a doula is a barrier for some parents. I believe that all people deserve to feel safe, satisfied, and valued during their experience of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Every baby deserves a safe, healthy start to life. But in Tompkins County, those rights are far from realized and we all have a part to play in expanding access and shifting resources to support all families in our community! Donate today to stand up for real health equity in our community!

We can’t do it without you! Here’s what your impact will be:$25 provides 1 hour of postpartum support!Every $25 increment adds another hour of much-needed support!$400 funds half the cost of doulas supporting new families before, during and after birth!$800 covers an ENTIRE birth doula support p...

Why are you a Doula?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved babies. I grew up carrying my babydolls in a sling and helping to care for my younger brother. As I grew older, I was able to watch my mother support new parents through her role as a lactation consultant and I observed the powerful impact postpartum support can have in getting off to a healthy and smooth start. This upbringing fostered an interest in working with new life and in maternal and child health. I currently work with new life in my role as a forest preschool teacher and feel blessed to work with new families. I love caring for, supporting, encouraging, and nurturing people. I’m honored to work with new babies and transitioning families and individuals.
