Here comes the Winter Solstice… The days are becoming mostly cold and dark as the season of turning inward beckons. How good it feels to catch a glimpse of the sun’s rays and warmth even as the sunflowers have lost their golden glow and snow starts to cover the ground. I do my best to capture that light and place it in my heart and keep it there to give me strength and peace through these darker times. Many people are also struggling with economic and family hardships and I send my light and love out to you all. ☀️🌻

May the Sun warm us by Day
and our Hearts warm us by Night and
May we all find peace and equanimity as the Solstice and Holiday Season approaches. 🙏

And speaking of the Winter Solstice … 🌒
I have one last Yoga en Español class to teach (and raise funds for Open Doors English).

❄️ Sunday, December 21st at 4 pm at the Yoga Farm Ithaca. ❄️

Join me in honoring the day when the Luz already begins to gradually return :). 🌙

13/11/2025

Please join me for my next fundraiser class for Open Doors English - in person in Ithaca New York, or online. I’m halfway to my goal of raising $1500 and need about 12 people to join me for the next two classes in order to reach it. More information in the video!
Espero que nos vamos! 🧘🏽‍♀️ 🧘‍♂️ 🧘

Friends : Come join me on the boat this Friday for our first ever dockside Happy Hour :). It’s meant to be a fundraiser for the new boat we need to buy, but it’s also just a great idea (in my humble opinion) for what’s looking like a beautiful fall day.

There’s a Sunset Cruise that starts at 6 that you can also go on for free if you want.

And you get one free drink just for coming and we’ll have wine and beer for sale, and some finger food to share. It’d be great if you could register/book in advance on the website - but just showing up works too.

And anyways … Happy October. It sure is beautiful out there. 🍁 Prost🍻!

Here is a big shout out to all of the wonderful interns who I worked with this summer as part of the Cayuga Lake Watershed Internship Program that I run through my work at Discover Cayuga Lake.

What a wonderful opportunity to guide the next generation of leaders who will be working on matters related to environmental conservation and justice and all of the important considerations that come with this line of work. It’s such a great opportunity to explore the complexities of taking care of our Earth and our communities all at the same time, alongside a group of creative and dedicated young people.

We always end up talking a lot about HOPE, and it seems that this program gives them hope as they see so many community members in our region working towards positive change, and it certainly gives me hope to know that there are young people who are looking to make a difference in their world as well. Every year we’ve ended the internship program by giving the interns “Sunflowers of Hope” that symbolize the turning of our heads and hearts to the light, and the seeds that we all can sow to continue to grow beauty and positivity in the world.

We have so many pictures of all the great activities we did together this summer, but these ones are just of the final Celebration and Presentation of Projects which we called the Love Your Lake Fest this year.

A big shout out and thanks as well to my colleague, Bill Foster, who guides this program with me, and to our local Assemblywoman, Ms. Anna Kelles, who helped mentor the interns this year.

If you know young adults who may be interested in the program next year, please send them our way!

I am so excited to say that I will be teaching yoga once again - starting with a fall series of classes en Español! They are inspired by my deep love of Yoga and interest in Spanish and and are a fundraiser for Open Doors English, a not for profit in Ithaca that focuses on teaching English as a second language to adult newcomers to our community. As such they’ll be donation based. 💰

The classes will be taught en Español and will be at a relatively beginner and gentle yoga level. Good for English speakers wanting to practice their Español or Spanish speakers wanting to learn or practice Yoga! 🧘🏽‍♀️

Classes will be held at the Yoga Farm but will also be hybrid (en línea). They will be once a month, with the first date being on the Fall Equinox. Perfect for focusing on balance (or equilibrio) in nuestras vidas.🌒

I don’t have a registration link yet, but hopefully we’ll have it soon and I’ll be sure to post it again here, so for now, please save the dates and grab an amigo or amiga to come along, and please help me spread the palabra!
🙏

Have you gotten wind of the fact that there are free paddling opportunities twice a week this summer? My organisation has been partnering with our local paddling company to offer several free cruises and paddling opportunities this summer as part of our new LOVE YOUR LAKE initiative.

Here’s the weekly schedule:

- Sundays, 2-3:30 - Lake Monitoring Cruise
- Sundays at Sunset - Club Cayuga (reduced fare)
- Tuesdays, 6-8pm, Community Paddle at Stewart Park
- Wednesday evenings - Community Sunset Cruises
- Thursdays, 7:30-9:30 - Community Paddles at Myers Park
- Fridays, 10:30-11 - Family Eco-Cruises

The programs are free but we ask for your donations to support our non-profit mission and community access programs. And reservations are necessary. Sign up on our websites!

Come on out on the water and enjoy the lake you live by! And here’s an interesting thought: What if Ithaca had no lake? Would you be living here??? 🤔

Here come another round of 108 Sun Salutations!
🌞 🌞
Tomorrow: Saturday, June 21st at 9am - on the Summer Solstice - to help kick off the 7th annual !!
☀️ ☀️
Sun Salutations are a physical practice and they can also be a prayer. We can set our intentions and dedicate ourselves to bringing ever more love into the world, and we can do it for a specific cause if we are so called.
🌞 🌞
The is dedicated to the protection of Cayuga Lake. Come show your support by attending the festival and start it off with a little yoga 🧘 if you feel so moved. You do not have to do all 108 Salutations! Do as many as you can and enjoy being in a community of people enjoying a beautiful day in a beautiful place for a beautiful cause.
☀️ ☀️
I have been leading rounds of 108 Sun Salutations on the Solstice for over a decade. 10 years ago we were at Taughannock Falls State Park where we held a Prayer for the Finger Lakes to bring attention to the impacts of fossil fuel storage in the Finger Lakes. Today, the lakes still need our attention. They’re mostly healthy, but they face some threats due to human impacts and global warming. Come learn about them, learn what you can do, and participate in some lake-based art projects at the Lake Discovery Village tent at the Festival.
🌞 🌞
Hope to see you there :)

What’s every body looking at? Osprey nests and waterfalls, bird and fish and insect habitat in the Finger Lakes. I’v been enjoying time outdoors with kids this spring, as I don my ecotour guide and environmental educator hat 🧢 during the annual trout releases that we organise
They have so much fun (well, most of them!) as we encourage them to use their senses and powers of observation 👀 to both enjoy and learn about the natural world they live in. Hopefully we’re growing future conservationists to protect our beautiful planet! 🌍

One of the best parts of my job as the Director of Tourism Initiatives has been learning more about the birds around our watershed, and designing programs for others to do the same. Amazingly,
we discovered a pair of Peregrine Falcons nesting on the beautiful Cliffs of Cayuga last year, and this week we’ve spotted 3 chicks. This is amazing news since Peregrines are still making a comeback after their decline (along with all raptors) due to DDT spraying in the mid 1900s.

This Sunday, May 26th we’ll be hosting our regular Osprey Eco-Cruise with our expert Ornithologist and Board Member Dr. Steve Kress on board to tell us all about the Birds of Cayuga Lake. We have some binoculars on board, but bring your own if you have them, and let’s wish for clear skies and good birding!

Tickets are $10-33 and you do need to sign up at www.discovercayugalake.org

Hope to see you out there!
