Here are 3 tips for when you have a job interview:
1) Know who the company is, what they stand for, what they do, etc. Also, know about the role you’re interviewing for. What are the minimum and maximum requirements and responsibilities or expectations? This will help you in #2.
2) Don’t over or under sell yourself. You may be over qualified for a job you really want. You don’t need to give all your qualifications in the job interview. Give just enough for them to know you’re qualified, but don’t give so much that they deem you over qualified. If they believe you’re overqualified, they will automatically think you’ll either be bored with the position or won’t really want to do the work. If you under sell yourself, they may not deem you qualified enough or capable. There is a happy balance and knowing what the role itself is and what the requirements are, will help you find the right amount of information to share.
3) They aren’t just interviewing you, you’re also interviewing them. You hold power in an interview as well. Ask questions about the company, the culture, the position, expectations, etc. You’re also trying to determine if you’re offered a position, if this is the right place for you.
