When to get your hearing checked:
Some people ignore signs of hearing loss, or chalk them up to aging and just live with it. But hearing loss can affect your life in many ways, so if you suspect you’re at risk, talk to your doctor.
Ask for an audiology evaluation to determine how severe the hearing loss is, says Dr. Factora geriatric medicine specialist Ronan Factora, MD. “If you do have hearing loss and your physician offers a solution like hearing aids, try them out,” he says.
“If you wait too long and develop memory problems, it will be more difficult for you to learn how to use these devices. It’s best to get used to them while the mind is still sharp so you can improve your quality of life.”
How does hearing loss affect the brain?
Essentially, the brain adapts to a loss by rewiring itself. It is a makeover of sorts, but one that can have a seriously detrimental effect on cognition. Even early stages of hearing loss can lead to cognitive decline. ... And even with mild hearing loss, the hearing areas of the brain become weaker.
INSURANCE COMPANY DISCOUNTS!

What is hearing loss?
If you have hearing loss, you are not alone. 1 in 4 people suffer from hearing loss. Hearing loss is a common problem that can happen to anybody and it often comes gradually with age or is caused by repeated exposure to loud noises. At Beltone, we believe in helping the world hear better. Our goal is to help customers and patients track their hearing.
What should I expect when I get my hearing tested?
Your Beltone Hearing Care Professional will first ask you about your lifestyle and hearing needs. You will then be given a comprehensive hearing screening, a video ear exam and a word discrimination test. These will explain whether or not you have a hearing loss, and will help decide the next steps to be taken.
Call today for your hearing evaluation, 517-788-7677.
How do I know if I have a hearing loss?
If you experience a number of warning signs, or if people often tell you that you're not hearing well, you may have a hearing loss.
How do I know if I need hearing aids?
Often, difficulty hearing stems from excess ear wax, an infection, or a physical irregularity, such as a perforated ear drum. These issues can be corrected medically, without the need for hearing aids.
Everyone over age 50 should have a baseline hearing screening. A proper hearing exam uses sounds, tones and speech to test your hearing. It must be performed in the right environment and analyzed correctly. Your results, which are plotted on an audiogram, will indicate whether or not you are a candidate for hearing aids.
Why Beltone?
Founded in 1940, Beltone is a global leader in hearing health care. One of the largest manufacturers of hearing instruments, Beltone products are sold in more than 50 countries worldwide.

HEARING LOSS OR JUST EAR WAX?
Find Out Now With a Tiny Video Camera
Modern technology is fascinating isn’t it? Take advantage of this opportunity to take a look inside your ear using a tiny video camera called a Video Otoscope. This procedure is completely painless. The camera is actually placed just inside your ear canal. It will allow you to see all the way to your eardrum. The value of this procedure is that it may help you understand why you may be experiencing difficulties with your hearing such as:
• Hearing but not understanding certain words or parts of words
• Difficulty understanding conversation in noisy places like restaurants
• Frequently asking people to repeat themselves
• Having to turn the TV up loud in order to understand what is being said
Using the Video Otoscope, a licensed hearing instrument specialist will be able to determine whether your hearing dif culties are being caused by ear wax build up. This exam may also reveal such common problems as:
• Damage to the eardrum
• Fluid accumulation in the middle ear
• Other conditions which may make it dif cult to hear clearly
You will also receive a FREE hearing evaluation* to help further determine the type and cause of your hearing diffiulties.
THERE IS NO CHARGE OR OBLIGATION FOR THESE SERVICES

It’s time for Trivia Truth Tuesday.
1. The smallest bones in your body are in your middle ear. All 3 of these bones can fit on the head of a penny.
2. Wearing headphones for just one hour will increase the bacteria in your ear by 700 times!
3. The roar we hear when we put a seashell up to our ears, isn’t the ocean. It is the sound of blood surging through the veins of the ear.
4. A newborn baby responds best to high pitch sounds.
5. 37% of children with only minimal hearing loss fail at least one grade.
6. Earlobes never stop growing.
7. Speaking of earlobes, their are two types of earlobes and the type you have are determined by your genetics. The two types of earlobes are attached and detached.
8. Ears are self cleaning. Like so many parts of the body, the ears are self sustaining cleaning machines. Ear wax is actually your body’s way of keeping your ears safe from debris and anything that may harm the eardrum. Unless you have excess build up, you do not need to clean the wax out of your ears.
9. At the age of 65 one in three people has hearing loss. However, the greatest population of hearing loss in the US is people whom are under 65.
10. Sometimes if you damage your ears, your perception of taste may be off because the nerves (called the Chorda Tympani) run through the ear and connects the tastebuds on the front of your tongue to your brain. Sometimes people who have had ear surgery experience a change in their taste.
Such a sweetheart! You are more than welcome James! We are so glad we were able to help you!
Meet James! James is the most recent recipient of our Beltone foundation hearing aids. He is a 26 year old man who lives in a group home for adults with cognitive delays. He is such a sweet man, and he really makes us smile. It is our price lace and honour to help people like James.

This is fabulous. Look how much difference a chicken can make. Think about that. Chickens have given these people a reason to move forward with life, imagine what an impact we could have on others if we just reach out. Chickens can have great personalities. I used to have a chicken that would ring my doorbell and wait for me to come out to see her. (Here is your Friday smile, be careful out there.)
