Breakout Drug Education

Breakout Drug Education Breakout is a two week, evidence-based, drug prevention education program that serves 3,000 middle and high school students each year.

Breakout offers 8 lesson plans for each program unit. Unit one is for 6th-7th grades, unit two is for 8th grade and unit three is for 9th-10th grades. Day 1 (Units 1-3) – Health risks associated with marijuana and tobacco use

Day 2 (Units 1-3) – Short and long term health risks associated with alcohol use (unit 1 includes inhalants)

Day 3 (Units 1-3) – Trend Drugs (based on local youth data)

Day 4 (Unit 1) – Self esteem: Fitting in

Day 4 (Units 2-3) – Self esteem: Accepting Differences

Day 5 (Unit 1) – Accept, Change and Avoid: Decision making

Day 5 (Unit 2) – Problem Solving: Taking Control of Your Options

Day 5 (Unit 3) – Coping Mechanisms

Day 6 (Unit 1) – Making Decisions. 5 Key Steps

Day 6 (Unit 2) – No Means No: Saying No Effectively

Day 6 (Unit 3) – Decision Making

Day 7 (Unit 1) – Actions Have Consequences

Day 7 (Unit 2) – Communication: Code Blue

Day 7 (Unit 3) – Risk Assessment

Day 8 (Unit 1) – Peer Refusal Techniques and How Avoiding Risky Situations

Day 8 (Unit 2) – Economics of Drug Use

Day 8 (Unit 3) – Planning for the future
