No Excuse November!
Is there something specific in your life you’ve been wanting to change or improve? Is there an area you’ve wanted to challenge yourself in, but you just haven’t been able to pull the trigger? Or at the very least, you haven’t been able to do it consistently? You tell yourself “Starting Monday…” and then talk yourself out of it, procrastinate, or life just happens. If so, congratulations…you’re human.
We all face challenges in various areas of our lives, and there are specific aspects where we desire growth. For instance, you may want to establish or maintain healthy habits related to your physical well-being, such as diet, exercise, or sleep patterns but struggle to keep these habits in place. You may aim to implement and regularly follow spiritual disciplines but can’t get a good rhythm going. Or it could be finally taking the steps to reconcile an important relationship in your life. For some of us, the challenge might simply be building enough margin in our lives and setting healthy daily rhythms or finding a way to be fully present when we’re with the people who matter most to us. Oftentimes, there’s something deeper behind our inability or lack of motivation to make the choices or take the actions needed to experience growth in these areas. This frustration can come from self-limiting thoughts or beliefs, past trauma, or even from our own past failures or mistakes. Of course, for some of us, it’s just old-fashioned procrastination or lack of discipline.
Regardless of which of these camps you fall into, I think we can agree that we can all afford to challenge ourselves to grow in some area in our lives. Personally, I’ve deemed this month “No Excuse November.” This month, I’m not allowing my mind or my body to say no to the things that I need. The areas I’m specifically challenging myself in are implementing healthier sleep habits, building margin in my life that allows me to bookend my day with intentional time for myself and my family, getting my diet back on track, and re-establishing my gym routine of 4-5x a week. I’m doing this not as some self-affirming social media exercise or a “look at me” campaign. I’m taking on this month with the hopes of challenging myself and others to take a look in the mirror and hopefully a step towards becoming that version of ourselves that we know we were created and called to be. With that in mind, I’ll be posting regularly on this page my progress (and failures) throughout the month, as well as thoughts, scriptures, quotes, and content that I hope will encourage some of the folks who follow Abide to challenge themselves as well this month.
I’d love to hear from anyone else who’s willing to jump in and be part of “No Excuse November” and maybe even the areas you want to challenge yourself to grow! If you are someone who is struggling in any area of life due to some of those root causes I mentioned, such as past trauma, self-limiting beliefs, anxiety, depression, or any kind of life-controlling issue and I can help, please reach out. The Abide contact info is on this page or you can message. Regardless of whether or not that’s you, though, let’s all find an area we can challenge ourselves. Comment below what that looks like for you and share this post on your page to encourage others to take a step this month towards walking out the freedom and potential we were created to experience as followers of Christ!
