Social media attention seeking, according to studies, is a result of parents having allowed social media to become a central fixture of children's development. Many of the situations described in the posts found on social media are likley not ones the posting child actually experianced, but they are a great way to get attention.
Many Gen Z and now Gen Aers aspire to be seen by as many people in the world as the Influencers they followed. Add to this the fact that parents allowed the importance of being known to flourish for their child. In many cases, parents inspired there children's aspiration to be heard by not teaching or enforcing any boundaries and by giving thier children the licence to seek attention from anyone and everyone in the world.
Many parents would rather their children seek the attention of the world rather than trying to actually have a relationship with them. This is a tragedy for many kids who may never reach their goal of becoming the Influencer they NEED to become. As such, a narcissist is borne.
Narcissist are those who put great effort into being relevant, even if they are relevant only to their close-in community. They will do just about anything to mask their insecurities and overcome those who they beleive are superior to them. This includes blaming them, gaslighting them, humiliating them, opposing them, and following the ideologies that make them stand out as different.
Parents, wake up, shut down the phones, and have a real and authentic relationship with your children before they choose a global family over a real family that does not care about them.
