Here we have an upper lip from a male patient. They were looking for clear margins on a BCC (Basal Cell Carcinoma).
It is very interesting to see how you have 2 different types of epithelium in one slide. On one end you have the epidermis that will have hair follicles and sebaceous glands vs the other side, labial mucosa, which does not have any of that.
We just love Histology 🤓🔬💜

This was a specimen from a scalp. We had to trim all the hair, get all the scab out and then wash it since it had pus underneath it all. They were looking for BCC (which you can clearly see as the bump on the middle) Just one of those cases where some extra care is needed before we even start relaxing and grossing the tissue. Every day at Mohs is different and you need someone experienced to handle something like this case. If your office is in need of our expertise, don’t hesitate to contact us.

This one has become one of my favorite cases. This was a first stage on a LIP. Yes, on a lip 😔 (I should have shown the slide for the debulk. It was the size of a quarter)
What I like about this case is that as soon as I looked at the slide (not under the microscope) I thought that perhaps this piece was positive. But once you look under the scope, those little purple bundles are actually salivary glands. Thanks to the whole team this patient only had one stage for their skin cancer.
