Body fat percent. What’s the big deal?

You may see posts or reels talking about why you should be considering body fat percent over body mass index. And it is true! It can be incredibly helpful in determining a healthy body weight for an individual.

As I joke with my patients, I’ve been helping individuals with their weight management goals since before it was popular. 🤪 And this is why I measure muscle mass and body fat on the patients who desire it. You could be at a normal BMI but in reality under or overweight by body fat or even at an obese BMI with a normal body fat. I see this all the time in my practice and knowing that bit of information makes a great difference in how I care for my patients.

Whether you need help teaching your kids good nutrition, staving off peri-menopausal weight gain, or working on trimming up after years of inactivity. I’d love to help you reach your goal!

Movement.

It’s so important and somehow becomes so easy to neglect.

Several of my best friends are walkers. I might get to the gym but it doesn’t always mean I’m getting enough movement in. In NYC celebrating one of my girls this week and reminded how much I love a good walk (with friends)!

What are you doing to get your movement in? How do you measure? I’m shooting to hit my 10,000 steps this week!

Pertussis is on the rise. If you have been exposed or think you may be infected, check with your family doctor as this is actually a treatable bacterial illness unlike many of the viral infections we just need to wait out. Some people exposed may require treatment to prevent the illness based on their individual risk factors.

The first stage is a week or two in length and can be difficult to distinguish from the common cold. After that first stage is when the classic whooping cough symptoms begin. This stage can last 6-10 weeks and in infants and other high risk individuals can lead to hospitalization. After this the cough will begin to resolve in stage 3.
