They began donating books to St. Dominic’s NICU in 2021 in loving memory of their daughter. Because of their generosity, each baby admitted to St. Dominic’s NICU receives a book before being discharged. Congratulations to Joe Clay, RN, 4 North Observation, who was named St. Dominic’s most recent DAISY award recipient! The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day.

A patient’s family member nominated Joe for this award for the thoughtful, attentive care he showed their loved one.

The nomination said, “Joe came into my husband’s room to introduce himself as the night nurse who would be caring for him. During this introduction, he went over in detail my husband’s past medical history and medications - which is quite lengthy. In today’s world, many things are rushed. Not only did he spend the time with my husband, but it was obvious that he had taken the time to familiarize himself with his patient. As I left for the evening, I knew my husband was in good hands!”

We are proud to have student nurses as part of the St. Dominic Health team! These nursing students began an academic externship program in May and will complete their summer rotation July 26. This paid externship program helps student nurses transition from academic learning to professional practice through hands-on experience and training. Many from this group will continue working at St. Dominic’s after completing their externship as nurse techs.
