Julie’s Pink Warrior Project

Julie’s Pink Warrior Project provides free screening mammograms to the greater Onslow community.

This project is in honor of Julie Zerkle, a breast cancer warrior who lost her battle with triple negative breast cancer at the age of 38. Julie was passionate about supporting individuals with breast cancer, and her livelihood as a mammography technologist enabled her to live her passion. Julie felt a lump and did not have it checked, due to an insurance gap after switching jobs. Julie's Pink Warrior Project does not want anyone to forgo these lifesaving screenings due to lack of access or coverage.

Meet Alexis, a dedicated Imaging Services Support Clerk at our Women's Imaging Center. She takes pride in being one of the first points of contact, guiding patients through their appointments and fostering a personal connection to alleviate any concerns they may have about mammograms. 👋

On behalf of the 5K Committee, thank you to everyone who participated in, donated, sponsored and/or volunteered in the 2025 Miles for Mammos 5K. The morning was filled with lots of excitement, laughter, sunshine and cool air as volunteers helped greet participants and special guests, coordinated onsite registration, distributed t-shirt and goody bags, passed out water on the race trail, cheered on participants as they began and finished the race and helped with countless other tasks that contributed to the success of the race. We had 500+ participants this year and were happy to see familiar faces from last year, as well as, lots of new ones joining us for the first time. Your participation and support will help ensure that we can continue to provide free 3D Mammograms to our friends and family right here in Onslow County!

Are you excited to join us next year? We are already planning for 2026, which will be held on October 17th! Congratulations to all our runners! The 2025 Miles for Mammos 5k was incredible!

Our overall male winner was David Cubacub with a time of 19:11 🔥and our overall female winner was Cierra Walker with a time of 24:21🔥!

We had an incredible turn out with 425 in person runners!

Thank you to all our participants, volunteers, vendors, supporters and sponsors. We could not do it without you !
