This simple test can predict if you have lung cancer — and you can do it at home:
A simple test known as the "Schamroth Window Test" can help you check for finger clubbing, a possible sign of lung cancer and other health conditions.
To perform the test, press the tips of your index fingers together, nail to nail. Normally, a small diamond-shaped gap should be visible between the nail beds. If the gap is missing, it could indicate finger clubbing, which is associated with lung disease, heart disease, and other serious conditions.
While finger clubbing itself isn’t a direct diagnosis of lung cancer, it is a potential warning sign that warrants further medical evaluation.
Finger clubbing occurs in stages, starting with softening of the nail bed and progressing to an increased curve in the nails, a shinier appearance, and enlargement of the fingertips. Though it typically develops over years, some cases — such as those related to lung abscesses — progress more rapidly.
If you notice these changes, it’s essential to consult a doctor promptly. Early detection of underlying conditions, including lung cancer, can significantly improve treatment outcomes.
