It’s never too early to introduce your baby to the water!
Early aquatic exposure offers more than splashes and smiles. Research shows that babies who spend time in water often develop motor skills, cognitive flexibility, and confidence much earlier than others. Some studies even found cognitive gains of up to 15 months ahead in areas like language, spatial awareness, counting, and direction-following!
While the American Academy of Pediatrics now supports lessons starting around age 1, early gentle exposure builds comfort and familiarity in the water.
Additionally, formal swim lessons for toddlers and preschoolers have been linked to an impressive 88% reduction in drowning risk, helping to build life-saving awareness alongside fun.
Of course, safety comes first. Keep infants in warm, supervised water. Avoid floatation devices that give a false sense of security (this does NOT apply to the lake). And never leave babies unattended—even in just a few inches of water.
