Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mommas, Grandmas, or ‘Baba/Bubby’ ‘s (as my mom is now called). Swipe👉🏼 to see some old photos of me as a teeny nugget with mom and grandma.
2 shout outs here: 1. my Grandma was Bea Brilliant😉😍 she was a seamstress, and made her own clothes, and us gorgeous princess gowns for Halloween growing up. (Hence, Be Brilliant Styling💕💕)
And, this year I have to give my mom an extra special shout out for being the ‘OG’ stylist in our family. She taught me about color, fit and fabric long before I ever took a fashion class. I still remember some of the epic shopping sprees she took me on whenever I needed new stuff, or when we would hit the sale racks and she got everything for our immediate and extended family and friends. She would always tell me what worked and what didn’t with love and honesty. We still get into way too detailed conversations about things like ‘which shade of navy’ something is...
Today the mommas in our fam were feeling under the weather, so after brunch I took the opportunity to go around my parents house and take snapshots of old photos
Every year my appreciation and awe of my mom (and all moms) grows as I learn more and more how amazing moms are. (I mean, hello, they give us all life, as if that wasn’t enough...)
From our ‘Brilliant’ family to yours - wishing you a Happy, relaxing, warm and fuzzy Mother’s Day. ✨💕
PS thanks to the ladies at for the gorgeous arrangement and card. She loved both! 😍😍 @ Jersey City, New Jersey

part 2: a couple takeaways and things to consider for your wedding look (more to come in future posts):
✨venue: if your venue is casual, don’t pick a gown with super formal vibe. It will look ‘off’ and probably not hold up to the elements
✨fit to flatter: I personally skipped the sleeves mostly for comfort, and also for flattering my upper arms (often showing skin is more flattering than covering)
✨Don’t give up on your vision! An expert can tell you what’s possible and what’s not, and sometimes you need a second opinion

Now that wedding season is in full swing.. are for !
First up, I’m sharing my about my wedding dress transformation (we got married in September 2018😊). swipe 👉🏼 for before photos.
I snapped up this sample find from a event for less than 10% of the retail value purely for the potential it had to be re-made.
There was something about this one that I just couldn’t let go of. The romance, the impossibly light and gossamer train, delicate flower appliqués, comfortable stretch fabric, and the overall casual elegance that I knew would work perfectly with our venue and season (the setting matters too, folks!)
After consulting with a wedding dress designer who confirmed my fear that it might unravel if we tried to remove the upper half (which was discolored and unflattering teeing), i temporarily gave up.
Then I was connected to a costume designer who, when I shared my idea to re-build this dress, had no qualms, no fear, and totally got my vision for it.
There was a risk of the dress falling apart, of it not working, or looking worse than it started. And I loved it so much originally it was a little sad to reconstruct it.... but I set my sentiments aside and we went for it.
4 weeks later, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was so close to perfect, and it was one-of-a-kind custom. My dream dress. And most importantly, I felt awesome, and comfortable in it all day and all night. (Bonus: I spent around $1,500 for a custom gown. Which is unheard of.)
What we did:
✨remove the bottom of train and used fabric to build new upper half/sleeves (hint: a long train for an outdoor venue like this doesn’t work well anyway and gets bustled shortly after the ceremony.)
✨hiked the skirt up to create a smooth panel over hips/mid section
✨created the low cut, sleeveless look with open back
I’ll be sharing more photos in stories and future posts but for now, enjoy this quick ‘after’ moment and a few before
💕💕❤️

It was a privilege to work with Nicole and a blast styling her for all the events leading up to it.
I love this -esque gown look for so many reasons, mostly because it was comfortable, flattering, and gorgeous. This dress literally did it all.
Not to mention the gorgeous shade of navy with subtle blue-green metallic finish, the beautiful wrapped rushing detailed around the waist, perfectly placed cap sleeve and sweetheart neckline. The comfort and flattery was added to by the fabric which has just the right amount of ‘give’ in all the right places
Most important - Nicole is literally *radiant.* The moment we finished zipping it up, we knew this was ‘the one.’ Beautiful ✔️flattering✔️and comfortable✔️✔️What more could we ask for??
Accessorized with some gorgeous bling and neutral metallic shoes and bag so we didn’t compete with the dress.
Check out our stories for some shots too ✨

Ahhhhh an organized closet is so peaceful to wake up to every morning. (Swipe 👉🏼 for the before photo)
Did you know? Part of the styling process can also include styling your closet. Aka *organizing* and decluttering ✨
This is Kim’s closet. This client is an actress/model/singer in NYC and said she was constantly running late to gigs because she couldn’t find what she needed. With frequent wardrobe changes and different types of work day to day, this was not working! (Sound familiar, anyone?)
After working together Kim said she had a sense of calm in her room, and peace of mind that she could always find what she needed easily. She also said she had more time to herself in the morning, and got much better at being on time!! (Who knee styling could make you punctual?!)
Investing time to do this upfront saves time and money in the long run, AND it’s like therapy for you and your closet - letting go of that baggage and getting your space back to a place that 😜👌🏼
(There’s a reason starts with clothes first - almost everyone’s got some proverbial baggage to sort out in there😜😇)
Check our stories to see steps we took to create this new and improved closet🤸🏼‍♀️
Happy spring cleaning 💕🧹👋🏼👋🏼
