"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll meet you there."
~ Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī
I went to a book study on the topic of Non-Violent Communication(NVC). This was required reading for my hypnotherapy certification, and in revisiting this, I was reminded of how important it is to meet people in this field that Rumi describes.
Marshall Rosenthal, PhD, author and founder of the NVC system, describes that it shows us a way of being very honest, without any criticism, insults, or put-downs, and without any intellectual diagnosis implying wrongness.
I was also reminded how this nonjudgmental approach to conflict resolution has so much in common with contemplation and hypnotherapy. They all require the creation of a state of neutral observation.
The NVC process isn't a free pass for people to act harmfully without consequence or to sugarcoat disagreements. Instead, it hosts an opportunity to step beyond that to listen to the needs underneath.
This awareness invites a state in which resolution, understanding, and mutual benefit can arise. And it requires practice for stability.
✨The more I go into the state of self-hypnosis, or into a contemplative state, the more I develop this type of stability.
I gain access to a Higher Mind within which allows me to process difficult feelings and thoughts with a healthy detachment.
We can call it Vagal-tone, self-regulation, or contacting the Divine. The frame and its terms should be your own. What I know is that willingness, honesty, vulnerability, courage, and - of course - patience, are all found there.
First and foremost is our inner-conflict resolution. So, I go within for this Higher Mind access, then the strength to meet others in that same field is available to me.
Magic happens when the tight grip of judgment is removed in those moments of being in the Higher Mind.
Watch what happens when you offer that to yourself - then to your loved ones, then to those you believe you can't love...
🦢See You There!
