This photo was taken the day Jeff came home from inpatient rehab 🌈

We've had the first couple rounds of follow up appointments & want to update everyone:

After getting through pneumonia, the associated fever, and a concern that internal bleeding was still happening somewhere, we are out of the woods! The overachiever has taken PT by the horns & has increased his range of motion a TON in the last couple of weeks. Ortho no longer thinks Jeff has a torn rotator cuff, and no surgery is needed for anything - final answer! The spinal fractures are all healing in the right direction, and he will go back in a couple weeks to possibly be cleared to drive, lift a little more weight, and go without the @$ #&?!* CTO brace. Jeff was having trouble sleeping, so we now have a recliner that saves the day daily, and he is half way weaned off the pain medication. All GREAT news!!! Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend so far!

Jeff using talk-to-text on Amazon: "grabbers for people who can't bend over"
.because he wants to do as much as he can on his own now that he's home! 18 days later, he's back with his fur baby and ready to get back to as normal as possible as quickly as possible. He'll be back in the office tomorrow and wants to extend gratitude to everyone for checking in and rooting him on!

After many hours of working hard to practice some basics, learn about injury management, and gain enough independence, Jeff is coming home tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!! Getting the car ready now.. He can't drive until cleared in several weeks, so I'll be driving, and Mr. Daisy will be in his CTO brace except for when showering. Does that make this more of an acceptable PSA during gutter-cleaning season? Or just an unsafe distraction? (This message was approved by Jeff, and we know all too well that ladder safety is no joke.)

Inspired by true events (including, possibly, The Goonies), Atley has expertly captured the essence of our walk around the rehab facility’s courtyard yesterday. From right to left, Brittany, Atley, me, and the inexplicable cobblestone walkway / rollway. I can’t say enough about what both of them have done in terms of their patience, time, efforts, and love. I’m fortunate for a whole lot of things, and the two of them take up all 10 slots in my top 10. Thanks again, everybody, for your comments, thoughts, and prayers. I really appreciate it!

7.4.2025 - Speedy GonJefe is burning wheelchair rubber taking laps around the rehab center! The staff has gotten many laughs at his sprightly demeanor and is glad to have him. He got his first shower in almost two weeks, which will make anyone feel they've come back to life, and he's taken on any challenge the PT team has given him. He crushed a chili dog to get a taste of the 4th (thanks again, Joyce!), and spent some time outside with Atley before getting some pain-free sleep 🙌

7.3.2025 - Jeff was discharged from the hospital this morning, got a little sun & a smoothie, and is now all checked in at the rehab center. He's approved to be here through the 9th, but I'm thinking it won't be that long with all his gumption & desire to put the independence in Independence Day. 🇺🇸

7.2.2025 - Today's scan looked good; Jeff is gaining independence back slowly but surely; he walked well over half a mile today (we counted floor tiles), and there's a 90% chance of discharge to the rehab center tomorrow! 😁

7.1.2025 - ***Urgent update: the turkey sandwich Jeff ordered on Thursday finally arrived! (;

For real though, the second and final chest tube is outta there! We went for a roll to the outdoor space, so Jeff got some sun for the first time in 10 days! If tomorrow's scan looks good and there is space, he'll be moved to inpatient rehab for physical therapy and education on making moves for the long haul!

6.30.2025 - Sir Jeffrey made great strides, literally and figuratively, as he journeyed on foot down the fifth floor concourse thrice today! He made eye contact with a mountain we decided we'll climb once he's ready, and then we happened upon a maintenance cart carrying a ladder that he will NOT be climbing, ready or not! 😉 The doctor looking after Jeff's chest drainage situation has 40 years of experience, and she said things were looking good! Output on the tube today was well below the minimum for tube removal, so we'll see if they'll make the call tomorrow. 🤞🏼 The output on the other kind of tube today was The Office, and a couple of Jeff's amazing co-workers stopped by with some goodies to make us laugh! Thanks again, ladies!! No beds are available at this time, but the order has been given to downgrade this fine, hard-working, and determined gentleman out of the PCU!

6.29.2025 - Ya boy worked up an appetite walking down the hallway on his own.. TWICE!!! Taking a leak while vertical was an additional win! More chest tube drainage today with him being upright, which is good news, and we await another scan in the morning. We learned that pain meds can back things up in a big way, so he has had what he describes as deep, thick, greasy, all-inclusive farts that smell like the entire zoo 😆 We've been binging Family Feud & cracking up at Steve Harvey's expressions to pass the time this weekend, and we're hopeful about the progress made today!
