We extend our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Marv, from Sully, Iowa, for his incredible contributions over the years. After dedicating many impactful decades to organizing blood drives, Marv has chosen to retire from his role.

Sarah Halverson, a student at the University of Iowa, began feeling sick around Thanksgiving of 2023. Following visits to urgent care, she went to Blank Children's Hospital, where she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

She required platelet transfusions on multiple occasions. But, thanks to the kindness of selfless platelet donors, she anticipates completing her treatment by April 2026!

The majority of individuals who require blood products are those, like Sarah, who suffer from cancer or other blood disorders. Although donating platelets takes a bit more time, the impact is incredible!

A Long Road Ahead

Andrea was feeling off for a whole week, then learned she had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. "We did all sorts of things. I just kept feeling worse and worse."

She had a dangerously low platelet count, and was admitted to the hospital. Over the next few weeks, she required 12 more platelet transfusions. "One really good thing that I heard last week at my appointment, though, was things seem to be going pretty well."

🎉ShoutOut to Director of Ops Rhonda Hood and CFO Brian Aust!

"My wife gave blood for the first time, in a long time, at the Johnston Donor Center. She suffered a delayed reaction while upstairs.

Brian sprang into action quickly, running to grab ice packs and snacks, while I helped my wife get off her feet.

Then, Rhonda stepped in and helped her get comfortable and settled, and stayed with her for a while until she was back to normal. Thank you so much to LifeServe!"
