A 2025 study published in AJOG adds powerful, up-to-date data showing associations between doula care and improved maternal and newborn outcomes.

Key Maternal Outcomes:

More vaginal births after cesarean (VBAC): For every 100 patients who received doula care, there were 15 to 34 additional VBACs compared with those without doula care.

Higher postpartum follow-up attendance: 5 to 6 more per 100 received postpartum office visits.

Key Neonatal / Infant Outcomes

Increased exclusive breastfeeding rates: Babies whose families had doula support were more likely to breastfeed exclusively.

Fewer preterm births (and early preterm births): Doula-supported births showed a reduction in preterm birth rates.

In short, the study links doula care with improvements in birth outcomes — across birth mode (more VBACs), infant health (less prematurity), and early infant care (breastfeeding, postpartum follow-up).

Let's shed light on the unspoken truths of motherhood. Not the adorable infant attire, not the snuggle-filled moments. The other reality. The one where your body feels bruised from the inside out, your emotions are in a whirlwind, and your reflection seems unfamiliar. Postpartum is a journey of healing - physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It's navigating the grief of your former self while discovering the new you. It's being consumed by love for your baby, yet feeling isolated. There were days when self-care was forgotten, nights when tears fell while rocking your little one, questioning your strength. But amidst the struggle, joy shone through. And it's okay to acknowledge the hardships. To every mother traversing the postpartum path: You are a work in progress, and that's beautiful. You are strong, not fragile. You are rediscovering yourself. Be kind to yourself, disregard the pressure to bounce back immediately. Nourish your soul as much as you nourish your baby. You are more resilient than you believe, and you're not alone.

We got some new followers on here and since we just celebrated our 1st birthday, I thought I'd reintroduce myself!

I'm Rachel Cantrell the owner and sole therapist of Bloom Therapy, LLC located in the heart of downtown Jonesboro. I moved here with my husband, son, and our dogs 6 years ago.

I love working with women dealing with a variety of health issues including: infertility, loss, mom rage, postpartum mood disorders, perimenopause/menopause, depression, anxiety, and trauma.

You don't have to be a mom to see me as a client. I do see college aged adults and some men.
