Alexander Technique with Alison Deadman

Alexander Technique with Alison Deadman I help people connect mind and body to find physical ease and mental calm. How we are using ourselves- the way we do things- affects the results we get.

The Alexander Technique is an educational process that focuses on the individual; therefore what happens in a lesson depends very much on the needs of the student at the time. The Alexander Technique is a means of improving that use wherein people can further their own personal skills and activities. Olympic level athletes have used the Technique to improve their performance, as have leading golfers and business people. The person who learns to stop and take time, to think constructively about how he/she uses him/herself in every day life will find that this simple procedure can have far reaching results. Breathing naturally is one of the first principles of Alexander teaching - and it's a must for anyone who suffers from stage fright, says Joseph Sanders

The role of the "Queen of the Night" from Mozart's opera Magic Flute is challenging at the best of times -but when performed while using aerial silks - well Rainelle Krause is both an athlete and a musician (and she uses Alexander technique to help her achieve her goals).

Aerialist noun : one who performs feats in the air or above the ground, especially on the trapeze. Does singing “Der Hölle Rache,” the famous Queen of the Night aria, upside down while suspended by yards of silk count as a “feat?” If not, it should because that’s exactly what soprano Rain...

Stress is a fact of life - how you deal with it defines how stressed you feel. There is some great information here about using the breath to connect to the parasympathetic nervous system. Alexander technique helps you find that connection to the parasympathetic nervous system to deal with life's stresses.

Given that Irish children will have spent close to six months out of the classroom by September, preparing for a return to school is likely to be a big deal in many Irish households. But in the big celebratory splurge for stationery, sports ki...

What is an online Alexander technique lesson like?

Many of you have this question, especially if you have studied "in person" with me in the past. When I work with someone in the studio, I typically use my hands to gently guide their body so they find more physical ease (and mental calm). With online lessons I help you hone your own body awareness and give you tools to help cultivate your own mental calm and physical ease - you have much more agency and avoid the trap of waiting for your next lesson for me to "fix" you.

Curious about how this might work for you? Why not message me today to schedule a lesson and take advantage of my current special offer: Book your first online lesson (even if you have taken "in person" lessons from me in the past) and get a 50% discount on your second lesson.

I love this image -not so much for the bones of the foot (although that is interesting) - but because it clearly shows the distance between the right sit-bone and the right hip joint. Your hip joints are quite a bit higher than your sit-bones. Important information for all and a recurring theme at last weekend's workshop for equestrians, where understanding the relationship between hip-joints and sit-bones make a big difference. See if you can sense the distance between these structures - what does that change for you?

Did You Know: 1/4 of the bones in your body are in your feet!

My Story

I was first introduced to the Alexander technique while an undergraduate studying music. A visiting teacher gave a seminar presentation and I knew that I wanted to learn more. Many years later I had the opportunity to take private lessons and was astounded at the difference this made not only to my musical performances but how it reduced stage fright, helped me manage stress and made me more physically comfortable and confident. I was hooked and soon trained to become an Alexander technique teacher. Further confirmation of the benefits of this training came as I took up horseback riding and saw how the technique helped me develop my connection to the horse.

I love teaching Alexander technique to anyone who wants to learn it. I frequently work with musicians and equestrians, but have also enjoyed working with radio presenters, yoga teachers, photographers, ballroom dancers, the elderly, those suffering from chronic pain and many others.
