My nutrition journey began as a college student. I was overweight, sedentary and unhealthy to the core. Freshman 15?! Call it freshman 30! Living in a very American town, my family was also unhealthy and to a much severe degree. Both parents and my brother were severely obese. by age 15, my brother was already using a Cpap breathing machine while sleeping because his obesity was restricting his ability to breath. My father suffered from hypertension, high cholesterol and later became diabetic and have a Cardiac Bypass surgery on not 1 or 2 but 6 vessels! I knew this was not what I wanted for my family nor myself. So I went back to school and became a Dietitian. And in that journey, I also started with one mile run which over the years turned into a marathon, half ironman and crossfit competitions. Diet and Exercise work!!! Also happy to report that at this time, Dad has lost 60 pounds - high blood pressure is down, he no longer has difficulty breathing climbing the stairs, and his Hga1c (blood sugar) is now normal. My Brother has also lost 70 pounds and has become active with crossfit. He also is breathing better and just completed his second 5k!
