This was not the post I had planned for the start of but this is real life and so much a part of cancer survivorship.
Hallie went in for her cancer scans and she has cancer again. This is something EVERY cancer kid and family fears. We can’t sleep the week before scans, terrified that any bump might turn into something bigger.
She has already taken 6 doses of chemo and is bravely fighting and kicking a$$.
When her oncologist met us in the little room and told us she has cancer again Hallie told her “you did a good job telling us this bad news.” Yup only Hallie would very politely say thx for telling me I have cancer but you did a great job delivering this news to us.
I asked Hallie about it later and she said “I looked into my doctors eyes and I saw she had been crying to - I just couldn’t imagine having to tell that news and I know she loves me so I wanted to tell her I’m not mad at her - cancer isn’t her fault but she was brave too and I have to be just as brave.”
And so will we Hallie Bea
I promise right now we’re OK. When we’re not OK I will reach out for help.
She has osteosarcoma in her right leg above her knee - it’s small so we caught it in time.
We do need PRAYERS for healing

Part 4 of Averi's Journey

Averi was 6yrs old when she finished treatment. She was vomiting every day and having stomach pain. After 6 months, her GI found that her pyloric sphincter was spasmed shut and they performed a balloon dilation. Three months later, she started having migraines so bad that she would vomit. One morning, she woke up in intense pain and started vomiting every 30-45 minutes. After two ER trips and after vomiting more than 24 times in less than 24 hours, she was admitted and got to spend her 7th birthday (and her brothers 6th birthday) in the hospital trying to control her pain and find a reason for her pain, but two years later they still didn't have an answer.

Her stomach pain was also getting out of contro. She was diagnosed with biliary dyskinesia (3% function, very rare for her age) & her gallbladder was removed which helped with pain for about 4 months but after contracting covid, her abdominal pain came back with a vengeance.

Averi also suffers from mild brain damage (from chemo), depression, anxiety, dyslexia, dyscalculia, neuropathy, bladder issues, chronic pain, chronic migraines, chronic muscle spasms, sleep apnea, hearing loss, reflux, & continuing abdominal pain. She is nine years old at this point and has spent the majority of her life in the hospital or in a clinic. She takes multiple medications daily just to help her function with daily life.

Stay tuned tomorrow to see how Averi is doing today!
