Research is an essential part of advancing the field of music therapy.

The Research Poster Fair at the conference created space for students and professionals to share their work, ask questions, and engage in meaningful conversation about the growing body of knowledge in our field.

Thank you to everyone who presented their research and shared their time and expertise with conference attendees. Your work helps move the profession forward and supports the continued development of evidence-informed music therapy practice.

Thank You to Dan McAllister of Glass Art Kalamazoo for hosting some of our GLR members yesterday!

They showed us their Cold Shop, Lampworking room, Kiln room and talked to us all about the incredible projects they have ongoing! Our personal favorite was their Journey Beads, which they create and give to children at Bronson Children's Hospital throughout their medical journeys to signify important events. The gallery was beautiful as well with so many intricate pieces to look at.

This afternoon’s Internship Fair brought incredible energy to the conference space.

Thank you to the internship sites who showed up to connect with students, answer questions, and share about the programs they represent. Many professionals were wearing more than one hat today - attending the conference while also taking time to represent their organizations and support the next generation of music therapists.

The photos capture the laughter, conversations, and genuine curiosity in the room. Opportunities like this create real pathways for students as they begin thinking about where their clinical training and professional journey might lead.

We appreciate everyone who helped make the Internship Fair such a valuable part of the day. 👏🎶

We are grateful to Deforia Lane, PhD, MT-BC for the keynote she shared with us at the 2026 Great Lakes Region Conference.

Drawing on more than 40 years as a clinician, program founder, and leader in our field, Dr. Lane invited us to pause and reflect on where music therapy stands today. Through stories from life, practice, research insights, and shared musical moments, she reminded us that even in times of challenge, this profession remains grounded in creativity, compassion, and human connection.

Her message - “for such a time as this” - resonated throughout the room. It was a call to reconnect with our purpose, to hold hope for the future of music therapy, and to move forward together with conviction.

Thank you, Dr. Lane, for sharing your wisdom, honesty, and encouragement with a room full of music therapists who care about the future of this field. Your perspective continues to inspire the work we do every day.
