In 2012, i was employed with the as a servant leader intern for Christian Fellowship Baptist church. I learned to create lesson plans based on the curriculum for my age group, how to lead guided discussions and lots about public speaking. One thing I’ll never forget though, is the day management tasked us with the development of a personal mission statement. I would’ve never guessed how this mission statement would truly be the roadmap to my life’s purpose.
Once I graduated college in 2015, I explored several aspects of my degree. Mostly that of behavioral health by way of youth residential facilities and advocacy for women who experienced domestic violence. That’s when I found my niche. I worked with young girls to practice healthy coping skills, and basic life skills to prepare them for replacement. I also worked with adult women to safety plan, and rebuild their lives after surviving adverse circumstances.
It was clear from then, how important it was for me to continue pouring into women and their life experiences but most importantly to me was creating SAFE spaces for BLACK women, both of which in my mission statement. So I ventured into sexual health and returned to my first love, health education and risk reduction. I created to reduce STI’s, increase sexual confidence, and empower self advocacy among black women in the KC Metro area and beyond.
I think the most beautiful moments in life are when you experience a full circle moment. So raise your glass, sis! Let’s toast to the greatest full circle moment of my career to date…
I’m excited to share that I’ll be presenting my recent work and the importance of CREATING SAFE SPACES FOR BLACK WOMEN AND THEIR SEXUAL EXPERIENCES at SYNChronicity 2024, the national conference for HIV, HCV, STIs, harm reduction, and LGBTQ health.
I hope to see you there! You can learn more about and register at SYNC2024.org.
