WE have truly been honored by your trust and bravery.

Kansas City is not willing to grant us a Special Use Permit to continue Darkness Retreats here on my land.

Simply said, I constructed the units specifically to be safe and dark... but they will not pass building code requirements for occupancy.

please support our nonprofit Enlighten Healing Arts with donations to help us relocate and build outside of Kansas City limits

if any of you know of a church off in a nature setting that is up for sale please let us know. The zoning and more difficult parts will have already been done so we can move in and get to work and help heal our world.

Dear friends,

Over the past few years, many of you have come to our meditation shelters and experienced the deep peace, reflection, and healing they were built to offer. This land has been a place of stillness, spiritual renewal, and connection for so many — and it exists because of your trust and shared vision.

Now, the City of Kansas City is trying to shut down our retreat space, misclassifying it as a “hotel” instead of recognizing it for what it truly is — a small, sacred place for spiritual practice. This action threatens not only my ability to host future retreats, but the continuation of this space for everyone who needs it.

I’m asking for your help. I need people willing to:

Write letters about their experiences here and what it meant to them

Speak out about why spiritual spaces like this matter

Offer skills, legal connections, or ideas to help protect this land and its purpose

Call to action!!

We have been shut down by the city of Kansas City Missouri.

Please take a moment to pray for our mission and continuation in what ever way that you do.

In 2021 we moved into this cute little farm zoned R80 in the far east city limits. I met with planning, permitting and zoning on how to legally and lawfully open a space where practioners could share and teach their gifts in alternative healing modalities as well as build and maintain a darkness retreat space for solo journeys to take place. In that meeting it was clear that my 12 acre farm could not become commercial and the cost of construction to meet those requirements were cost prohibitive at that time.

I explicitly ask how we can move forward with as little red tape as possible and here was the plan i was given.

Build units under 200 square feet that do not have utilities run to them. R80 includes religious assembly gatherings, and this is definitely a spiritual based practice.

We construct it and have operated them exactly as requested. But no permits were issued because we were following rules, not requiring them.

The city officials now see this as a lodging facility and is requiring that we meet hospitality and commercial zoning, and architectural requirements.

Unfortunately, I have invested all I can in time and money. And while I do believe every single person that comes through these doors has been worth every penny I’ve spent, I can’t fight the city alone and I really don’t want to.

I’ll be in court tomorrow at 1:30 in Kansas City most likely taking a plea agreement that will put us on probation and shut down our Darkness shelter offering here. We’ve been published in the Kansas City star and helped so many people reach an enlightened state of peace and confidence. We’ve never had a negative outcome and I feel so blessed to have helped so many people. In no way do I want this to be the end but I need help for my community.

Let me know what you can do even if it’s opening your heart and saying a prayer. Don’t underestimate the power of that.

One of the differences about our Darkness retreat, as how we have completely designed your reentry into the light as a rebirthing process.

It starts gentle and early an hour before dawn.

This morning, this was my view of the full moon, as I invited my participant out into the moonlight between knight and Dawn

In this very special light emerging from a Darkness retreat of five days, you can fill the power in nature supports each person so individually

This morning was cold in the moonlight blowed on the fresh snow. It was 6° so we didn’t spend a lot of time outside, but we did watch the sunrise.

Full of grace and ambition, forgiveness, and hope.

Each person I’m honored to receive in this way, leads me to the belief that they may be the only reason we created this very special place

I will never know how deeply this impacts people. So it is my belief that each participant is 100% the reason I built it.
