Thank you for visiting my page and seeking to learn how to contribute to staying alive with blood cancers. My name is Jenny Anderson and I am a candidate in the running for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's 2017 Kansas City Woman of the Year. I grew up here in Kansas City, was raised by parents Lynn Simon and Chris Farrell alongside my three siblings, Brian, Michael and Ritchey Farrell. Our world was rocked in 2012 when we learned that our mother, Lynn Simon, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. My mom was living in Buena Vista, Colorado at the time and she and her husband, Bill Simon, had to commute monthly to Denver for her treatments. From March 2012 through July 2012 she was on chemotherapy, COP treatment. In July 2012 she was in remission and was placed on a 2 year maintenance program of Rituxan. She finished her Rituxan treatment after having moved back to Kansas. She now resides in Wichita and still visits her doctor twice a year, and has CT scans every other year. If it weren't for this treatment my mom would not still be with us today. She has loved all four of us kids unconditionally through every injury, sickness, and difficult stage in life. Through those years of treatment, however it all became about her. My mom is fortunate, she is in remission from the disease and her life is a testament to the outstanding research for curing and treating blood cancers. I have several other friends and loved ones who have battled and others who have died from this disease. I was nominated by a friend who ran for Woman of the Year 2016, Jenny Stasi. I am specifically committed to raising funds that create and improve treatment for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma that saved my mother, and improving treatments for children diagnosed with blood cancers. Thank you for your love, support and contribution to the great cause of staying alive with blood cancers.
