Dear Supporters, Clients, and Community Partners,

After careful consideration and with deep respect for our mission and community, we have made the decision to wind down KCBMHI’s operations. The final day of behavioral health services provided directly by our organization will be May 30, 2025.

This decision was not made lightly. Over the past six weeks, we centered the needs and dignity of our clients, the well-being of our professional team, and the long-term strength of the Kansas City community. Our priority remains ensuring continuity of care and upholding the values of integrity and trust that have guided our work.

The vital Black Therapy Fund will be transferred to a trusted nonprofit community partner. This transition is being managed with great care to ensure there is no disruption in access to services for current participants. We will be working closely with the receiving organization to ensure a smooth and transparent handoff that honors the legacy and intent of the Fund.

To our supporters and partners, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your belief in this work has allowed us to serve hundreds of individuals with culturally responsive mental health care and advocacy. Together, we have built something meaningful—and while KCBMHI’s chapter is closing, the movement toward mental wellness, equity, and healing for Black communities continues.

If you have any questions about this transition or would like to be connected to future service providers, please don’t hesitate to contact us at kcbmhiboard@kcbmhi.org.

With heartfelt thanks,

Kansas City Black Mental Health Initiative (KCBMHI)
