Story time… it’s a little long, but it’s worth it.
About seven years ago, I remember the first time someone told me I couldn’t afford something. We were talking about buying a house in a certain area, and the person casually said, “Oh, you can’t afford that.”
My heart sank, my mouth hit the floor.
First, I couldn’t believe someone had the audacity to say that to me. But second, I had to ask myself an honest question: What energy was I giving off that made someone believe there was anything I couldn’t do, be, or have?
Instead of getting angry, I looked within.
I started paying attention to how I was presenting myself and what energy I was bringing into rooms. What I realized was that because I worked with some of these people, I didn’t want to appear as if I was “doing better” than them. So I humbled myself to fit in.
And that was a big mistake.
I thought I was fitting in, but what was actually happening was that people began to see me as less than. Because I was offering a service—even one that was changing lives—they assumed I couldn’t possibly be thriving from it.
The truth was simple: because I wasn’t honoring myself, other people weren’t honoring me either.
That had to change.
So I recalibrated my energy back to where it always should have been. I regulated my nervous system to feel safe showing up exactly as powerful as I truly was.
And everything shifted.
I stopped apologizing for my gifts.
I stopped dimming my light.
I started showing up in ways that honored my purpose and felt good to my soul.
I no longer shrank myself to make others feel bigger. That was never my job.
I chose to stand fully in my truth—and God honored that.
So let this be your reminder:
Shine bright. Be big.
The people who are meant for you will find you.
And the ones who doubt you or secretly envy you will slowly fade into the background and watch from the sidelines.
But whatever you do…
don’t dim your light.
