Let me say this clearly: faith and therapy are not opposites.

I’ve heard it too many times — “Just pray about it.” “Give it to God.” “You don’t need a therapist, you need more faith.”

And I’m here to tell you: you can love God deeply AND need professional support. You can pray fervently AND sit in a counselor’s office. You can trust God’s plan AND take practical steps to care for your mental health.

Faith doesn’t mean ignoring your pain. It means trusting that God has given you tools — including therapists, counselors, and community — to help you walk through it.

As a woman of faith AND a Licensed Professional Counselor, I’ve seen the power of both working together. Prayer opens your heart. Therapy gives you language for the wounds. Together, they create space for real transformation.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, give yourself permission to embrace both.
