What we resists persist.

Denying something because you don't like it, doesn't make it less real.

There's a beauty with working WITH life instead of against it.

As soon as we learn to accept things as they are, we can act accordingly.

Change comes from acceptance, controlling the things you can, and not letting the things you can't hold you down.

Pro Tip: You lose A LOT of mental energy that could be used towards better things by worrying about what others think.

Use that energy to work on yourself.

You mess up? Cool... people might judge... but would you rather spend your time worrying about them, or trying again?

You can only control some things in life. Most of them being how you show up & react & perceive life.

You only have so much mental space in day. You can use it to worry, or you can use it to do things.

If you use it to do things. If you use it to self-reflect & try again. YOU KNOW you are trying your best, and other people can't touch that.

Confidence isn't always about being THE best. It's also about giving YOUR BEST.

And you can't give your best if you're making decisions based on what you think everyone else thinks about your s**t... or what someone thinks about who you we're 5 years ago or when you messed up that one time.

Focus in, own your own 💩 - and use your energy on that.

The rest will fall in place.

Been a little slower on recipe output because all my recipes are getting moved do this sweet new format.

If you join my Patreon ($11/month) you'll now have access to an app (or website) that allows you to build meal plans & grocery lists from the cooking club recipes- you can also add in your own recipes or others :-)

Super user friendly, and recipes will only be a click away. They also come with all da nutrient info, a health rating, glycemic index #, and all those goodies.

I'm still decided if May's JCC zoom class will be on stress management OR finding balance... TBD!

I am excited to make my first sour dough loaf though with the sour dough starters we made this month!

If you're looking to add more joy and balance to your diet, with a dash of healthy living content, then PLEASE join my Patreon (link in bio) :-)

I've thought about this subject a lot.

There's a huge gap between when we want/hope for something and actually having/accomplish it.

And I ask myself all the time, what is that gap?

And it dawned on me recently, it's choosing.

Each day we have a number a seemingly simple choices, but in order to get what we want or something we haven't had before, we have to choose something new.

Here's the thing about making choices.

If you choose one thing, you often have to let go of other things;

like temporary comfort

the easy out

the option to "start tomorrow"

the unhealthy coping habit you've been justifying for years

doing what everyone else is doing

instant pleasure

Why is the hard? Because often to accomplish what we want, the CHOICE we need choose is the one that has ZERO immediate return, and is uncomfortable in the moment.

Choosing to go on a walk instead of watching TV

Eating healthy and meal planning instead of ordering out

working out instead of relaxing

doing the work instead of scrolling through IG

You get the point. Here's the best part though; it's all just once choice away. Everyday.

You have the power, just ask yourself in the moment, temporary pleasure or long term satisfaction?

You got this :)

Also this is why I have 'abandon hope' tatoo'd on my body. I'm hopeful, but I like to remind myself I have choice in the matter 😉

We often justify ourselves with saying things like "well I was nice about it" or "I was just telling the truth"

But here's the thing ^^^^^^^^ if that kindness IS NOT paired with truth or that truth IS NOT paired with kindness, you're often not going to get far.

I always think about how children are the most receptive to things, and it's never when you're harsh, or when you're too nice.

Then they either fear you or walk over you.

But have you ever kindly explain the truth to a child? And talked to them like they're a human just looking to understand? They're a lot more receptive.

This isn't just parenting advice though, the thing is we're just grown up children, most of us will still listen better if we're met with truth and kindness 🥰

What do you think?

It might not be "right" or "wrong", just not for you :-)

Don't let em make you believe that you can't have health & enjoyment when it comes to the foods you eat.

This is exactly why I started my patreon cooking club (www.patreon.com/JessCooking)

So I could bridge the GAP between bland & boring healthy eating & foods you actually enjoy.

Not to mention, making it easy so that you're not spending hours in the kitchen either.

The recipes are simple & give you space to learn to trust & grow your own kitchen skills. TRUST ME YOU HAVE THEM.

Also everyone always asks me "what's the difference between your recipes and ones I can't just google?"

1. They are MUCH more simple- you don't have to filter through a whole blog.
2. They give you suggestions to make them your own/cater to your own taste preferences.
3. They're delivered directly to your inbox.
4. You don't need 1000 ingredients you never heard of.
5. I take suggestions on turning your favorite meals into healthier ones.
6. They tend to be budget friendly

It's just a bonus we do some live calls, classes, and meal preps too :-)

Still only $11/month for now :-)

This is one of those hard lessons we all have to learn.

If you're waiting for the magic moment or scenario where you're suddenly going to feel like it, you're going to be waiting a long time.

Most "motivation" comes from momentum, so get moving. ❤

You're going to shock yourself once you start moving through the "not feeling like it" moment, promise.

I'm always hesitant to speak on this subject because there's always more complex context needed to determine someone's health and/or level of fitness, BUT...

I am so tired of seeing people measure their results purely off their body fat %. If you have appearance goals, good for you. Me too.

But we need to start asking ourselves, is it my body I truly want to change? Or something else?

We need to do better at making sure people know that the confidence they're seeking doesn't even come from the physical changes, but the feeling of finally showing up for yourself and your health..

We need to do better at making sure people know there are so many more measurements of progress beyond body fat- and if your goals are to FEEL and PERFORM better, you honestly don't even need to measure your body fat 😬 There are SO many other indicators of fitness and health.

Have you ever thought about measuring your happiness or sense of well-being instead?

I could honestly, probably do a whole ted talk on this. But I just wanted to plant the seed, you are so much more than your body ❤️

A lot of us have been taught to use SHAME as a motivator to build self-accountability.

And YES in the early stages, sometimes the bad feelings are going to be one the ones that get us out of the hole.

However, as you move forward YOU will begin to collect the experiences of feeling GOOD and BETTER and HEALTHY and ENERGETIC.

And I find THOSE feelings to be a much better accountability tool.

Because you deserve to feel those feelings regularly, so why not do the tings that help you create them?

Temporary discomfort creates long term satisfaction :-)

A few of my favorite best practices to reduce my food waste:

1) Check what’s in my fridge before I go to the store- what can I use the food I have leftover in?

2) Modifying recipes to use what I have; it seems like a lot of people are afraid to veer from recipes; don’t be 😉

3) Chop & Freeze fruits and veggies and then use them in soups & smoothies.

What are your best practices to limit food waste (and also save money because they kinda go together)?

Also I recently start a compost jar, idk know what my next steps are yet 😂 but I know by the end of this summer I will have at least a small compost set up- so I’m saving my scraps now. Yes it looks gross haha.
