Kansas City — We’re Growing 🌱

Safe Journey Sanctum is currently in a rapid growth phase, and we’re incredibly grateful for the momentum our community has created.

As we expand, we want to clarify what we offer at events across Missouri:

✔️ Naloxone (Narcan) distribution
✔️ Overdose awareness & response training
✔️ Live fentanyl reagent testing (Missouri compliant)
✔️ Peer support services for individuals navigating intense or non-ordinary experiences

Our mission goes beyond supply distribution. We provide trained peer support teams focused on de-escalation, emotional grounding, and connecting people with appropriate medical resources when necessary. When medical intervention is needed, we coordinate directly with on-site EMS or local emergency services.

We are actively building our volunteer roster and infrastructure so we can sustainably support more events — without overextending our team.

We Are Currently Seeking:

• Dedicated volunteers interested in harm reduction & peer support
• Licensed medical professionals who want to volunteer at large events
• Production companies, venues, and festival organizers who are enthusiastic about integrating structured harm reduction and peer support into their safety planning

If you’re passionate about keeping Kansas City safer — especially within music, arts, and community spaces — we’d love to connect.

📩 DM us or fill out this application to apply: https://forms.gle/oF992FpBNVpHfKE58

Let’s build something sustainable, professional, and community-centered together.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last weekend at the KC Psychedelic Peer Support Summit for our collaborative workshop with the Zendo Project and the Global Psychedelic Society.

Exploring Zendo’s Four Principles of Psychedelic Care together strengthens the foundation of what we bring into the field: grounded presence, non-directive support, de-escalation skills, and clear boundaries in altered states of consciousness.

Did you miss it? You can request to view the recording of it here: https://o.lu.ma/AFHUB0frwi

If you’d like to continue learning, Zendo is offering a free mini course on the Four Principles, including an integration worksheet to help you revisit and apply the framework at your own pace.

Free mini course through Zendo: https://o.lu.ma/CFceHAudkx

For those ready to go deeper, their 12-hour Zendo Sitting & Integration Training (SIT) begins March 2. SIT focuses on ethical peer support skills — not therapy training, and not psychedelic session facilitation — but education in how to remain steady when others are navigating fear, looping, emotional intensity, or uncertainty about emergencies.

Use code GPS10 for 10% off registration (this also supports GPS).

Register for SIT: https://o.lu.ma/1yVhhAeU0X

These skills matter — especially as we prepare for a major music gathering this summer where Safe Journey Sanctum will once again be providing peer support and harm reduction services onsite. We can’t announce details yet, but we are actively building our volunteer team now.

If you attended the workshop or complete the mini course and feel called to serve in community settings — including festivals — fill out our volunteer application and mention your training experience: https://forms.gle/oF992FpBNVpHfKE58

Care is not reactive. It is intentional. And this summer, we’re bringing it back into the field.

Join us for the KC Psychedelic Peer Support Summit! 💜💜💜

We are excited to announce a big event in collaboration with the Global Psychedelic Society (GPS) and the Zendo Project — the KC Psychedelic Peer Support Summit. Join us next Saturday, February 7th, to receive live training from the Zendo Project and learn how to support others through challenging psychedelic experiences with skill, presence, and care. The GPS is streaming this workshop exclusively to in-person watch party events hosted by local Psychedelic Societies like ours around the world. Whether you're interested in harm reduction, part of a sitting group, or just want to learn how to support others more effectively, this event is for you.

This workshop will introduce the four Principles of Psychedelic Harm Reduction:
✔️Safe Space
✔️Sitting, Not Guiding
✔️Through, Not Down
✔️Difficult is not necessarily bad.

The SIT training is completely free and open to all people interested in learning about and providing psychedelic peer support. If you would like to attend the SIT training for free just update the ticket price to $0 before checkout. For those who want to aid PSKC and Safe Journey Sanctum in providing future educational psychedelic summits please consider our suggested donation of $10. We appreciate all who are able to support and we look forward to seeing everyone at the SIT training!

🔥❄️ Heat, cold, or a little chaos—naloxone still holds strong.

A 2019 study found that naloxone remains chemically stable even after exposure to extreme temperatures and repeated freeze–thaw cycles for up to 28 days. That means your kit in the car, backpack, or winter coat pocket can still save a life when it’s needed most.

Still, always replace it when possible to ensure top effectiveness.

There have been several reports online claiming that commonly available sticker rolls that are often used in festival communities-such as the HOT stickers-are being used to unknowingly drug attendees via a transdermal (through the skin) route of administration.

Dancesafe has a great PSA on correcting the record on how transdermal patches work as well as the novelty and complexity involved with making them.

One key takeaway is this: transdermal patches are not small and usually require to be placed on very specific areas of the body to work reliably. Not only that, but they require a very strong adhesion to the skin. They are not pleasant nor easy to remove. If someone were able to somehow turn innocent, well known novelty stickers into illicit transdermal patches, you would immediately notice it by how painful and difficult it would be to remove from the skin.

So if you or a friend get tagged with a HOT sticker by a stranger at a festival: don’t be alarmed. Someone is just being silly.

Did you know? 💡 Expired naloxone still works—just maybe a little less effectively.
Studies show that most naloxone retains much of its potency for years past the printed date. When it comes to an overdose, any naloxone is better than none—expired or not. Always use what you have, then replace it when you can.

🐴 Did You Know? 🐴

Xylazine—a powerful veterinary tranquilizer used on large animals—is increasingly contaminating street drugs, especially those laced with fentanyl.

This is NOT just an animal sedative problem. It’s a human overdose crisis.

🔬 How Xylazine Works
It’s an α₂-agonist, meaning it slows brain activity—causing sedation, muscle relaxation, dangerously low heart rate, and suppressed breathing.

🚫 No Antidote for Humans
While animals have access to reversal agents like atipamezole and yohimbine, humans do not.
Narcan (naloxone) will not reverse xylazine’s effects.
People overdosing on xylazine need immediate airway management and supportive care.

💡 Why This Matters
Xylazine overdoses are harder to detect and treat. We need on-site drug testing at events to warn communities before tragedy strikes.

🎯 Take Action Now
Help us bring free, life-saving drug testing to Kansas City music events.
