Your tongue posture may be more important than you think. 👅⚡️

Think of it like a switch:

Tongue UP → the body is better supported.
Tongue LOW → the body often compensates.

Proper tongue posture can help support:
• Nasal breathing
• Facial development
• Jaw alignment
• Better oral function
• Overall posture

Small changes practiced daily can create long-term impact.

Awareness matters.
Function matters.
Breathing matters.

When providers work together, patients benefit from a more comprehensive approach that considers both structure and function. So grateful for the amazing airway focused orthodontists at Indigo Ortho like Dr. Mehta!

Grateful to work alongside professionals who value airway health, oral function, and long-term outcomes. Straight teeth are beautiful but without the proper foundation they may not last!

Just walking my dog, nothing to see here🤭 These are called "K sounds" and it is more than just the "kuh sound". Can you do them even if you don't have a Myofunctional therapist? Sure you can. Can you know if you are doing them and using the parts of your tongue most effectively...not as likely. These done properly with any necessary structural work, weight loss if needed, nasal hygiene and various other Myofunctional exercises can be a great part of a Myofunctional therapy program. Obstructive sleep apnea(OSA)or Upper Airway Restrictive syndrome(UARS less severe) has been shown to improve greatly with Myofunctional therapy. Researchers have shown that sleep apneas(apnea hypopnea index actually-breathing pauses) can be reduced by 50% in adults and 62% in children by doing a quality Myofunctional therapy program. Of course you have to be willing and able to commit to a program, and find an experienced therapist for best results. Check out this article below for more about how Myofunctional therapy can help you sleep better. Also check out the Breathe Institute as well to learn so much more! Pardon my talking with food in my mouth.Eating whole apples and other fiber dense foods is so good for jaw and palatal development in your children. Make sure your child is old enough to safely handle it of course. I have found that a nice veggie tray set out before our meals helps motivate my children to eat the more fibrous, but sometimes less attractive options, while they are more hungry. There are so many great fibrous options so let them pick and see how many different colors they can eat each day! Grow those palates so the faces grow forward rather than down to help develop strong open airways! Remember the roof of the mouth is the base of the nose, so a narrow palate leads to a narrow base of the nose which can lead to day and or night mouth breathing habits. Prevention is best!!!!

"The Spot" is just the beginning awareness of proper tongue posture. We have to work on getting the tongue to suction(not through force) to the whole roof of the mouth to clear it out of the airway. MyoSpots help but they work best with guidance from an experienced Myofunctional therapist! DM me if you want to learn more!!

Happy Monday everyone! In a previous post I showed how to place the Myospot on "the spot". Now I'm going quite a bit further back just to show that you can place it further back to practice getting more of the tongue suctioned up into the roof of the mouth. I'm not saying that I have a perfect suction, and I would love to get an expansion soon, but I just wanted to share with everyone that it can be used further back. You might have to play with it a little bit to get it to stick, but this can be so helpful to use throughout your day as a reminder to keep your tongue up in the roof of your mouth if you are already structurally capable of it, of course!

These MyoSpots()are an easy tool to help you or your loved one be more aware of the first step of proper tongue placement. Yes,just getting your tongue to "the spot" is not the entire goal. These are best used with the help of a Myofunctional therapist to truly master proper tongue posture for airway health, ortho relapse prevention and overall improvement in total health. myospots
