Good Samaritan's Cancer Center, on the campus of Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, serves central and western Nebraska and northern Kansas. The Cancer Center offers stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic radiotherapy, image-guided radiation therapy, respiratory gating and RapidArc through Varian Trilogy. The medical oncology department provides patients with private treatment rooms. The cancer program is involved with various clinical trials, allowing patients the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research. Multidisciplinary care, counseling services, patient navigation, genetics and tobacco cessation counseling, and various support groups are available on site. Other integrated therapies including pastoral care and use of the healing garden are also available. The Cancer Center also employs outreach coordinators to promote prevention and early detection to rural citizens of Nebraska.

Mission: Our mission is to nurture the healing ministry of the Church by bringing it new life, energy and viability in the 21st century. Fidelity to the Gospel urges us to emphasize human dignity and social justice as we move toward the creation of healthier communities.

We are so proud of our staff, who are among those in our community working to ensure resources are available when they’re needed during these challenging times. Our team trains for medical emergency situations year-round – and handles infectious disease on a regular basis. Even so, information is rapidly changing and our staff is tirelessly working to keep our patients and community safe. From our skilled physicians, to our nurses, housekeeping and so many others, it takes everyone--you are all heroes!

March is Colon Cancer Awareness a month. Save the date for our annual Colorectal Screening!

Cancer knows no borders. In 2018, one out of six people worldwide died from cancer – that’s more than HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined. This year marks the 20th anniversary of World Cancer Day. Organizations across the globe are working together to raise cancer awareness and encourage support, action, and funding for prevention, detection, and treatment. #WorldCancerDay

Today we celebrated the retirement of Marilyn Kile, APRN after 39 years of service. Marilyn has been an incredible part of the cancer center team, a mentor to many nurses at Good Sam over the years and a great friend to many. Her oncology expertise, infectious laugh and compassion will be missed.

We also had the opportunity to wish Dr. Bascom well as he too retired as of 8:00am this morning when his final call ended. We will miss his vast knowledge of oncology.

Enjoy Retirement...well deserved.
