PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH ANY OF OUR EQUIPMENT WITHOUT OUR SUPERVISION AND PERMISSION.
The Fireground is a dangerous place! Please do not touch our equipment for not only your safety but for ours as well. Today when we responded to a structure fire on Hall Avenue, a resident trying to assist the department in the beginning of the fire helped the initial units get water supply established unfortunately when our member walked away from the fire hydrant to check to see if it was safe to turn on the fire hydrant. A resident took it upon themselves to turn the fire hydrant on before the supply hose was attached to the fire engine, leading to a catastrophic event where the entire hose bed of 5” Supply Hose started to rapidly fill these rolls of hose are 100lbs per section dry and our trucks have 1000 to 2000 feet of 5” preconnected. Not only could this action have seriously injured people on the fire ground but worse it could of put our fire fighters in danger of running out of water while actively fighting the fire, putting not only their lives as risk, as well as causing significantly more damage to the home we are fighting to save if we were to run out of water.
This all being said fortunately no one was injured in today’s fire, and we are very grateful for all agencies that came out to assist us today.
