Do you struggle sometimes to get the perfect coat of wax on your skis with a Swix wax roller?

Does your wax application look too thick or uneven?

Even if the wax in the pot looks fully melted, it could be that your roller is not fully up to temperature yet. You want the entire roller to be glossy on all sides, with no dry or opaque sections, (and stay that way) before using it to roll your skis.

Always do a quick roller spin and visual inspection before using your wax roller.

Also, using your wax roller in an unheated garage or other very cold area could affect application. Whenever possible do your wax application in an area that at least has some warmth in it (doesn’t have to be fully heated to 68+ degrees, but should not be “freezing cold”).

Early morning view of the training venue for this week. They don’t call it “the icebox” for nothing!

Perfect slalom training venue for the KMS FIS and U16 athletes. Also great for teaching them the value of ski tuning and the difference perfectly tuned edges can make. Looking forward to a successful training block on many fronts. Thankful to be here to facilitate.

All set up and ready to tune. SL training on the ice starts tomorrow for the KMS FIS and U16 athletes.

It’s been a busy week getting skis prepped for the Killington Mountain School U16 and FIS athletes so they are ready for their next training block in Europe. ✈️ ⛷️

Since the first part of this training block is indoor “on ice” at Wittenberg in Germany 🇩🇪 it is especially important that their slalom skis are razor sharp and base bevels are accurately set to give them the control they need for confidence on challenging terrain like this.

After Wittenberg, they’ll be heading on to Hintertux in Austria 🇦🇹 for GS training. So we’ve dialed in their GS skis for training on the glacier.

Proper tuning ahead of training blocks like this ensures the KMS athletes have the confidence and performance advantage they need to make the most of these experiences.

Just got back from Mount Hood? Or on your way back soon? We bet that summer snow was… well, abrasive! 😬 All that volcanic grit can really do a number on your skis. It trashes the bases, dulls the edges, and if not taken care of properly, can lead to other problems down the road.

Don't let that hard-earned summer training go to waste on trashed skis! Get them tuned as soon as you get back so you're dialed for your next camp or training opportunity. A good grind isn't just about speed; it's about creating a baseline to eliminate gear from the performance equation and maintaining a consistent performance level that you can rely on so you can focus on your training, not on your gear.

Beat the end of summer rush and get your bases and edges back in prime condition. Race Tech Ski Service is open and ready to get your skis perfectly tuned. Contact us to schedule drop off today and don't worry about it all summer! 🛠️⛷️

On hill this morning at Killington Resort with Killington Mountain School BOOST Spring SL camp. Looking forward to doing a tuning clinic with these young athletes later this afternoon to help them better understand the relationship between ski tuning and what they are experiencing on snow as well as how to maintain their skis for optimal training and racing.
