"Team Joe" Layn Cancer Fund
The Kingfisher Community Collaborative is uniting with the Practical Nursing students of Chisholm Trail Technology Center and the family and friends of Joe Layn to raise money to help pay for medical expenses. This summer (2014) Joe was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis secondary to Myelodysplastic Syndrome. These disorders affect the ability of the bone marrow to produce b
lood cells and lead to scar tissue formation in the bone marrow. Transplants are costly; the average cost for transplant and first year expenses is $800,000. Thankfully, Joe has insurance to aid in covering these costs. A transplant begins with chemotherapy to destroy the diseased cells and marrow. The transplant replaces diseased blood-forming cells with healthy ones. During this process Joe will be hospitalized for a minimum of about a month followed by many months of recovery at home. Joe's diagnosis is yet another emotional and financial challenge for the entire Layn family. It has been about four years ago (December, 2010) that Shena's battle with cancer ended. Joe continues to pay her medical bills. This fund has been established to help raise money to pay medical expenses and living expenses so that Joe can focus on getting well and Terri and the family can focus on caring for him. If you would like to financially support Joe in this challenging time, send you tax deductible donation with a note designating funds to Joe Layn to:
