Healthcare, especially pelvic care, is not a "one-size fits all." We are each unique. We have different qualities, different problems, different life experiences. Shouldn't our care be as individualized as we are?

Who can benefit from pelvic therapy? Pretty much everyone!
But if you experience:
😖 Pelvic pain
💦 Urine leakage
🏋️‍♀️ Pressure with lifting or exercise
Then pelvic physical therapy can help you!

All of those problems have different causes and deserve to be treated differently. For more information about how this can help you, DM or comment below.

It's amazing that in our modern world, people are still so afraid of female anatomy. Young girls are taught to be ashamed of their bodies long before they even know what these parts are or what they can do. But the fact is, people are more in control of themselves and their situations when they have knowledge.

I wanted this post to be more educational, but unfortunately social media tends to censor these things. So I'll leave you with this... Can you name all the parts of your genitalia? Do you know what a v***a is, or what a normal one looks like? Here are some basics:

🪷 The v***a is the whole thing, everything you can see from the outside.

🪷 The l***a are not meant to be twins. They do not need to match each other, or anyone else's for that matter.

🪷 The urethra is the small hole that you p*e out of.

🪷 The va**na is the larger hole where you menstruate out of, that you typically use for in*******se, and where babies usually come out of.

🪷 The elusive cl****is is not that elusive... It's just above the urethra covered by a small hood.

These are just some basics, but I urge you to educate yourself on your anatomy. Knowledge is power and we all need to be in control of our own bodies.

With any exercise, you want to be sure to follow some basics. These will help you out:

💪🏼Listen to your body: The "no pain no gain" motto only applies to productive or good pain. You should feel a tolerable ache, burn or stretch while exercising that stops once you're done. Sharp pains or pains in the joints are never ok and you should modify to avoid injury

🫁 Breathe through the exercise. Do not hold your breath and strain! Aim for exhaling on the hard part of the exercise, like when you lift, jump or stand from a squat. Talk to a PT if you don't know how to breathe using your diaphragm. This will allow you to take a deeper breath and get more O2 to your muscles.

🏋🏼‍♀️ Engage your deep core muscles to protect your spine and give you stability.

🧘🏼‍♀️ Stretching is so important to improve your mobility and your strength. It can even improve running times and lifting technique!

DM me or contact your physical therapist for more tips on how to improve your workouts!

Happy Fall from your friendly neighborhood Pelvic PT! 🍂

Pelvic health seems scary because of the unknown. Because for many people, this topic has been a taboo. Because they have asked for help and are told "it's normal." Because of all the conflicting information found online...

Pelvic health is not scary! All you need is proper information and a supportive and caring provider who is willing to create a plan tailored to you and guide you step by step along the way 🧡

DM me if you have questions about your pelvic problems and want to know how you can get help.

One of the most common problems I see is painful in*******se. Women will convince themselves (or are told) that it's normal or that they are the problem but are not given any tools to fix it. Help is out there! If you have pain with in*******se, DM me or see your local pelvic floor PT to find out how you can have a pain-free s3x life.

Yes, these are all pelvic floor exercises. Long-gone are the days where we are told to practice cutting off the stream of urine to " do a kegel" and strengthen our muscles. The pelvic floor muscles can be trained in a number of ways! And let's be honest, we are all most likely to do them if they are a part of an activity that we already enjoy. Send me a message or reach out to any pelvic health therapist to see how you can incorporate pelvic floor training into your daily routine!

My name is Dr. Reyna Bucknell. I have been practicing in outpatient physical therapy settings for 8 years treating all sorts of conditions. My true passion is pelvic health. Women deserve quality care. We deserve to live full and happy lives without fear or shame to ask for the help we need. We should be able to exercise or play with our kids without wetting our pants. We should be able to enjoy s*x without pain. We should be able to lift or squat without worrying that our insides will fall out. I strive to empower women to shed the stigma and seek the help we deserve.
