Have you been experiencing intense itching sensations that feel like they are originating beneath the skin, accompanied by red marks from scratching and flushing reactions? There are numerous potential causes of itching, but it is possible that you may be experiencing histamine intolerance. This condition can occur when consuming foods you are allergic to, histamine-releasing foods, or if you are deficient in the enzyme diamine oxidase, which breaks down histamine. Additionally, taking certain probiotics that produce histamine or having an overgrowth of organisms in the gut that cause histamine release may also contribute to this condition. Rest assured, there are steps that can be taken to decrease your sensitivity to histamine. Continuous Glucose Monitors are a game-changer for those with or without diabetes. I have been wearing a Lingo CGM for two weeks, and it has really helped me learn which foods and combinations of foods spike my blood sugar beyond a normal level. The more our blood sugar spikes and stays elevated, the more AGEs we produce-Advanced Glycation End Products.

Why does this matter? Excessive AGEs cause inflammation and oxidative stress, leading to tissue damage- in the eyes, kidneys, nerves, bones and joints, and in the vascular system. AGEs in the brain are linked to Alzheimer’s and cognitive decline. In the skin, they lead to wrinkles and loss of elasticity. AGEs age you-before your time. So consider trying a continuous blood glucose monitor, even for a couple of weeks. It can help you manage your diet for a lifetime.

Free Evolt360 Body Composition Scan Friday September 12th at 6 pm for all who attend the Overcomers Free Nutrition Lifestyle Accountability Support Group , the Ground Up Therapy and Wellness, 2322 Osborne Rd, St Mary’s. It’s great to get a baseline reading to help you set meaningful fitness goals. For example, my scan showed that I need to work on building lean body mass and skeletal muscle mass. Research evidence:
The American Gut Project (the largest microbiome study to date) found that people who ate 30+ unique plant foods per week had more diverse, stable, and anti-inflammatory gut microbiomes compared to those who ate fewer.
• Diversity matters for chronic disease protection!
• A diverse gut microbiome has been linked to lower risks of obesity, diabetes, autoimmune disease, allergies, and even depression.
Bottom line: feed your good gut bacteria and they will bless you by proliferating and improving your health!

Does it sound overwhelming to try to eat 30 different plant foods per week? The meal pictured contains:

The soup-broccoli, yucca root (a new one for me), cilantro, carrots, bell peppers, white beans, white onions and spices in addition to bone broth and salmon. That’s 8 plant foods.
The salad-2 lettuce varieties, pickled red onions, baby beets with an avocado dressing. That’s 5 more.
Dessert: red grapes.

That’s a total of 14 plant foods, nearly half of the recommendation in one meal!
