Shake the Stigma

Shake the Stigma Shake the Stigma is the theme of this years Mental Health Awareness Week on Truman State's Campus.

Mental Health Awareness Week is coming to Truman's Campus this semester! We think it’s time to start a conversation and help Shake the Stigma surrounding mental health. Through this campaign, our hope is to give Truman students an opportunity to express themselves, come together and take part in a conversation. According to the National Institute on Mental Health, “75 percent of lifetime cases of mental health conditions begin by age 24, and one in four young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 has a diagnosable mental illness.”

The symptoms of mental illness are often misunderstood, and a significant amount of false information and stereotypes are perpetuated about people with mental illnesses. Education is a key step to improving mental health issues we face as a society today. A lot of great ideas in the works for the week and we will keep you updated on what we have planned as it gets closer to the week. Until then, we hope you enjoy the articles and videos that we post on this page to get you excited about Mental Health Awareness Week! If you have any questions, concerns or ideas you'd like to talk about, feel free to email us at smh8364@truman.edu! MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING REGISTRATION:
