Personalized Design Elements

A memorial is more than stone, it is a story.

Through custom lettering, meaningful symbols, faith emblems, scenic artwork, portraits, ceramic photos, scripture verses, special inscriptions, or even a simple vase placed with care, each detail becomes part of the legacy you wish to preserve.

Maybe it’s a favorite Bible verse.
A phrase they always said.
An image that reflects their faith, service, or love of the outdoors.
A ceramic photo that captures their smile.

These personal touches turn a monument into something deeply meaningful, a place where memories live on and stories continue to be shared.

With thoughtful in-house design guidance, we help you create a tribute that reflects not just a name and dates, but a life well lived and deeply loved.

Granite Color Options

The first step in designing a memorial begins once the cemetery space and regulations are known. Size requirements, upright or flush, and placement guidelines all play an important role in what can be created.

From there, one of the biggest decisions is granite color.
From classic gray and soft pink to deep jet black and rich reds, there are many beautiful possibilities.

We always recommend visiting the cemetery to view colors in the natural light. Lighting, surroundings, and even how nearby monuments have weathered over time can influence your decision. Looking around at existing memorials can also help guide design ideas and image selection.

Color and size are the two main components that help determine pricing and allow us to begin creating a memorial that fits both your vision and your budget.

Every life tells a story. The memorial should reflect it with care, beauty, and lasting meaning.

Choosing the Size & Style of a Memorial

The first step in designing a cemetery memorial is understanding what is allowed. Every cemetery has its own guidelines for size, foundation, and whether upright or flush markers are permitted. We personally work with cemeteries to know these details so you don’t have to navigate them alone.
From there, the creative process begins.
You may choose:
• Upright monuments – classic and traditional
• Slant markers – slightly angled for visibility
• Bevel markers – low profile with a gentle slope
• Flush granite or bronze markers – level with the ground
• With or without a granite or bronze vase

Is this a current need, or are you preparing for the future? Planning ahead can help determine whether a single or companion (double) memorial is right for your family.

Every life is unique. The memorial should be too.

Our Story

The Bauer Family tradition of caring began in 1947 when Amberson C. Bauer founded the first Bauer Funeral Home in Kittanning. When Amby's son Jack joined the growing business in 1970, the Bauer Funeral Home became truly a family enterprise. In 1984, father and son purchased Clark Chapel of Elderton from Clarence Clark. Following Amby's death in 1992, Jack assumed responsibility as President of the Bauer Family Funeral Homes. Jack purchased the Bly Funeral Home in Dayton in 1996 from Frank and Sally Bly, expanding the Bauer Family of funeral homes to its present number. Our vision of serving the community with compassion and understanding was begun by Amby Bauer in 1947 and continues to be realized as the family business grows through the generations. Amby's granddaughter, Jennifer Bauer Eroh, is a licensed funeral director who joined the business in 1998 and continues the family tradition of caring and service into the next generation. The Bauer Family is proud to offer the finest facilities at reasonable costs for everyone in the communities we serve.
