The Knoxville-Knox County Council on Aging is proud to present "A Lifeline of Hope: Su***de Prevention and Resources for Older Adults" by Scott Payne from Contact Care Line on September 12th at 2:30pm at the O'Connor Senior Center.

Join us for a discussion during Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, focusing on risk signs for older adults and the resources available to offer support. Scott will provide insight into what happens during a su***de crisis and how active listening can play a crucial role in encouraging someone to stay safe now and seek help for the future. Participants will also learn about the Contact Care Line and how they support our communities through specialized training and support services.

"Today I saw a video that made me tear up. An elderly veteran on hospice wanted to get a meal with his wife at a local pizza restaurant. There he sat with his oxygen tubes and oxygen machine and his cap that identified his branch of service in a long past war. In the same restaurant, a middle school choir was also enjoying lunch. Several of them saw him and started to sing the national anthem. The entire choir stood up, faced him, and joined in singing. This old and broken down warrior struggled to stand, placed his hand/cap over his heart, and wept as the choir sang. The humble and noble expression on his face said everything to me. There stands a true hero. Also, the actions of these kids tell me that even though some people say America is bruised, she for sure ain't broken. God bless us all."

👓84 year old Antonio had been struggling with seeing clearly and had not received vision care in more than 6 years. Painting detail work on cars since he was 15 years old, his vision is paramount to continuing his passion!

Antonio was one of the more than 1,570 individuals who received services last week at Operation Border Health Preparedness!

The fate of a mother is to wait for her children. You wait for them when you’re pregnant. You wait on them when they get out of school. You wait on for them to get home after a night out. You wait on them when they start their own lives. You wait for them when they get home from work to come home to a nice dinner. You wait for them with love, with anxiety and sometimes with anger that passes immediately when you see them and you can hug them.

Make sure your old mom doesn't have to wait any longer. Visit her, love her, hug the one who loved you like no one else ever will. Don't make her wait, she's expecting this from you.
Because the membranes get old but the heart of a mother never gets old. Love her as you can. No person will love you like your mother will. ♥️

Veterans and their guests of all ages will enjoy FREE hot breakfast and warm fellowship at Hillcrest Community Church, Inc. on Saturday 10 August 2024 compliments of Jerry Price Landscaping. Volunteers with Rocky Top Veterans Foundation will be serving Swaggerty's Farm sausage and scrambled eggs prepared by our friends at Food City on Western Avenue. They will also be serving soon to be world famous biscuits and gravy prepared by Sam Tobea and his crew at Round Up Restaurant & Ice Cream.

Thanks to Food City, Rusty Wallace Nissan, Tennessee Valley Authority, TVA Retirees Association and Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc. for their support of this project.
